Piggy “compost” went into the garden. Our mystery piggy compost volunteers were watermelon and pumpkins! First watermelon picked and ready to eat! Thank you piggies! 🐷 ❤️.

I don’t think there will ever be a time that my Olives won’t be my favorites. Eagerly anticipating new layers. This year has been focused on adding HUGE speckles..at least that’s the plan in my mad scientist brain. We shall see!

Let me tell you about an amazingly kind, talented, and delightfully crunchy lady named Kayla! ❤️ Kayla is the force behind Feather shack farm. A few years ago we had brought In Some of Kayla’s beautiful Silverudds Blue, Marans and Cream Legbars. They were very much an integral part of our foundation stock. This year when I wanted to add some genetic diversity, I reached back out to Kayla. We had a FANTASTIC hatch rate. The chicks thrived and were doing fantastic and had moved to our grow out stall in our barn, where a very rude young possum scooched his way in between the walls and decimated the majority of our most anticipated growouts. We were devastated. I’ve been growing out chicks in that stall for years with no issues.

Kayla was heartbroken for us, and took it upon herself to send me 18 eggs that are happily nestled in my incubator and would not take a dime. The world needs more Kayla’s and less hate, and I am so blessed to have her in my little chicken world!

What’s on your wish list? What egg color are you dreaming of adding to your basket, or breed are you dreaming of adding to your flock? My dream egg is deep Dino speckled olives. I think that might be a forever obsession. 💚. 2nd is ANYTHING with cool speckles.

And on this episode of The Bold and The Brainless, also known as The Silkie Chronicles 2.0, Miss floof has finally made a love connection. Was it with Biff or Brad? She’s not one to kiss and tell. After a bountiful 8 fertile eggs, Miss Floof has been overtaken by the call of motherhood, and is lovingly cultivating an empty nest of hay the wasteful goats have discarded as unworthy, while her future children are developing in the incubator. Will Miss Floof prove worthy to raise her own children? Will Biff and Brad forsake her for Miss Peep now that she’s in a family way? Stay tuned for the next episode.
