Only going to get worse, sadly

Across the Midwest, farm bankruptcy filings are up 70% from 2025, and are the highest level since the pandemic.

Paperwork shows losses in crops and livestock helped drive the increase.

The Midwest and Southeast made up more than two-thirds of all Chapter 12 filings.

Last year, around thirteen Minnesota farmers made the tough decision to file for Chapter 12. A year prior, that number was four.
