When you have a farm, you know the harsh reality that with all life, comes death…
Even though it’s the circle of life, it’s not really in the forefront of your mind…
Sometimes, as you watch your charges age, you know the inevitable is closing in…
So you make the best of the days you have left…
Sometimes a life is taken unexpectedly and too suddenly to process…
Then sometimes, there are those souls who make you forget that aging is a thing…those that for some reason, never seem to age in your eyes.
This handsome boy is Vegas…he is one of the original 3 mini horses, along with his dad Chance and a very special rescue named Ready, that were the driving force to snag our own piece of paradise so they could be home with us.

This afternoon, my Vegas baby, the last of the “original 3”, left this world much like he did everything else…on his terms.
See, to me, he was still my spry, ornery, goofy, loving, stubborn, young baby…

Thanks to the unusual behavior of my other 2 equines, I was able to get to my Vegas baby and kiss him goodbye just before he made his journey to join the others waiting for me at the rainbow bridge…
I apologize to any neighbors that had to hear my mournful screams and cries…
I was not in any way prepared to say goodbye to him anytime soon…he was my baby…there was no way it was his time.

It’s wasn’t until after I was able to pull myself away from him and go back inside, did it hit me that Vegas was born in March of 2002…he was almost 21 years old…I was blessed to have owned him for the last 13 1/2 years.

While the benefits of animal ownership greatly outweigh any pitfalls, this part just really fu***ng sucks…
More like a nightmare.

I can’t imagine not being greeted with his demanding whinnies and his annoyed “WOMAN! YOU ARE NOT MOVING FAST ENOUGH WITH MY FOOD!” foot stomps tomorrow morning during feeding time…

Or his “MMMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!!!!! SHILOH BUSTED OUT AGAIN!” tattletale whinnies when his pain in the ass younger quarter horse brother would decide to go walkabout.

Damn this is going to hurt for a while…
Y’all hug your babies tight.

My Vegas baby…I hope you know how much you were loved...Give Chance, Ready and the rest of the crew all my love.
PS: Keep an eye on your sh****ad brother. Lord knows his du***ss needs a guardian Angel.

It is with a very heavy heart that I announce the sudden passing of our oldest beloved 4-legged, Heidi.

At 17/18 years old, she was the last remaining of our “original” crew.

Heidi was with us pretty much her entire life and one of the most dramatic cats I had ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Heidi, thank you for the endless years of love, snuggles & loud purrs. Not to mention your loud protests over food changes or voicing your displeasure for any & everything.

I am going to miss having a kitty that gave me head butts & “talked” back to me.

Fly high my sweet girl! I’ll see you again at The Rainbow Bridge. 💞🐾🌈

He’s gone.
My blue-eyed baby Milo is gone.
My heart is shattered.
It seems he ate something he wasn’t supposed to and his little body tried hard to fight it off but just couldn’t.

I love all my babies but Milo was Mamma’s boy. He might have been the smallest of the herd but he didn’t know it.
He loved to talk to you and followed you around like a puppy.

I’m going to miss him so much. My heart is hurting so bad.

See you at the Rainbow Bridge my sweet Milo.

When I say even our goats are kennel trained, I can assure you that I’m not kidding!

Our little Milo hasn’t been feeling well the last couple of days and he decided this evening he needed another night of being pampered.
After the goats were done with their free range time this evening, instead of Milo heading to their enclosure as usual, he headed to the back door and waited patiently to be let in. Once the door was opened, he trotted in chatting away and headed to the kennel.

Now, the only issue is that he is occupying Bubba’s kennel…who isn’t too happy about this THING being in his “room”…that he rarely used anyway! 🤣

Let’s hope Milo starts feeling better soon! 🤞🏼

The baby torts are settling in nicely!
In a week Tort A (dark tort) has gained 8 grams!! 😳
Tort B (light tort) has gained 4!

But by the looks of it, you wouldn’t know they have a huge tort habitat since “stack the tort” seems to be a favorite game of their’s at nap time!

Apparently we got the extra special stackable torts! 🥰

With everything we had going on yesterday, I completely forgot to announce the arrival of our 2 newest additions!

The breeder I got Tiny Tort from was just as heartbroken as I was when I told him that we lost TT unexpectedly. He kindly offered a pair of mid-scutes to me, knowing they can’t replace TT but he knows how passionate I am about torts.

However, you can probably tell these babies are not mis-scutes. 😁
He emailed me last night and said he realized when he was filing their shipping paperwork that I was mistakenly send two of their “normal” torts, and the darker one is a high value one. Oops! 😂
(They take a picture of every tort shipped beside their tracking number…smart!)

That being said, of course I’m not going to “return” them for a mis-scute pair. They were obviously meant to be!

For now, they are Tort A (dark) & Tort B.
