I know we haven’t posted much over the last year. We have been working hard to rebuild our herd after the divorce and having to sell down way to hard. These ladies have made the hard cuts and boy are we proud of them! Josh and I, Jill, are ready for show season to be here!
They may not look like much in this photo, but let me tell you more about each and you will see why we are so excited.
(Whisper-N-Creek herd name will be shortened to WNC for this post)
Left to Right: WNC Y Me is a first freshening 2 year old about 3 weeks fresh. The lateral attachment and beautiful teat placement and delineation coupled with the width over her top makes this doe everything I strive for in breeding dairy goats!
WNC Arcadia is a first freshening 2 year old. This is Jill’s doe and yes I know Josh will be kicking my butt with Y Me, but the capacity in this doe along with the attachment she will hold her own. Arcadia and her half sister Alivia, the sungau, are my Amberlin produce of dam.
WNC Bad Moon Rising is a yearling only 3 days fresh. This doe is already the height of the 2 year olds on each side of her! She has her aunt’s rear leg set but hey that attachment is is just as wide as Y Me when you get the legs and hair out of the way and the lateral attachment runs the full depth of her udder! Give her a month and she will be able to compete with those 2 year olds. Did I mention she’s already milking 6 # at 3 days!
4th doe in is Miller Farms Brix it’s unfortunate as a yearling last year she fought mastitis and ruined half of her udder. She is still putting 12 # down on one side but since we are now a show only herd she is moving to Josh’s parents dairy this weekend.
5th doe in is WNC Alivia. She is a 3 year old 2nd freshener. While she is a little small for her age, she milks like a little freight train and super easy to hand milk. That udder is so high and snuggly attached that Alivia holds all that milk up against her body. She’s milking about 10 # just shy of a month fresh.
Next is the token Obie WNC C’ing Red Hot and she is living up to her name! Red is a 2 year old first freshener just under a month fresh. The height, width, and medial and lateral attachment is absolutely amazing and the teat delineation just wow. I cannot wait to see this doe develop!
2nd to last is CH WNC Vlandra. She needs no introduction as she is now 9 years old, 9 freshenings and still our top producer!
Lastly is WNC Emerson who is a 5 year old 3rd freshener. After fighting an injury on her right tear last year and requiring a teat cannula just to milk her last year, we are excited she freshened completely normal this spring. She is able to hold her milk and milk without the teat cannula!
This is not everyone as the saanens decided to finally kid in the last 2 days, single doe kids each to boot, and Yuri the 10 year old alpine who sets her own milking schedule.
