John is kept informed of what is said on this page, Beth Cooley Newton is who you are talking with. Our Farm is located in Wagram in the NC Sandhills of Scotland County. Wagram is located twenty miles south of Southern Pines and forty miles Southwest of Fayetteville, 25 miles north of the NC/SC Line. For almost twenty two years we have looked far and wide for specific bloodlines and body types to
build our breeding herd of American Mammoth Jackstock.. Our goal is to breed a well mannered, forward moving athletic mammoth with balanced conformation, good size and bone, long narrow ears, using foundation bloodlines. We have one of the largest gene pools of foundation bloodlines to be found anywhere; going back to Preacher, Rancho La Burrada Walter, 3 Jumps Big Louie, Julio, Nonomi, AAA Tennessee Rebel, Dodger, Old Hickory, Bully Boy, Siemons Glen, Ol Mississippi and Jen-Jack. Through the years we have sold Mammoth Jackstock to locations across the U.S., Canada, Costa Rico, and Mexico. We are lucky in that most of our jackstock is sold before they are yearlings. For folks just learning about American Mammoth Jackstock donkeys, know that they are: safe riding mounts with their surefootedness, make excellent driving prospects and make wonderful companions as pets. Mammoths usually require less feed than horses of comparable size. Also mammoths cannot eat high protein feed like horses. Mammoths are slow growing and are not mature until six years old. We do not break ours to ride until they are 4 years old. Young jacks are bred sparingly at the end of their second year. We also pasture our six month old jacks with a mare to give them a good start to be mare jacks for our buyers looking to breed mules.. The American Mammoth Jackstock is the largest size of donkey. They are an American Heritage Breed began in the United States in the late 1700's mainly to be used to breed superior mules. Their may only becaroundv3000 in the world and they have a fascinating history. Mammoths are known for being easy going, kind and being deeply affectionate towards people. They are highly intelligent and ten times stronger than a horse. American Mammoth Jackstock is a breed not just a donkey that must meet certain height requirements to qualify as a mammoth. Just because another breed ,(standard, etc) reaches a certain height does not make it a Mammoth. An American Mammoth Jackstock Jack should be at least 14.2 hands tall at the withers, ours average 15+ hands in height. American Mammoth Jackstock Jennies should be at least 54" or 13.2 hands, ours average 14.2 to 16 hands tall. Mammoths are truly the gentle giants of the donkey world. Their gentle natures are bred into them, unlike other donkey breeds. Mammoths are addictive; as you spend time with them they will fascinate you with their gentleness, intelligence, mischievousness and different personalities. They will look youbinbtheveye and communicate with you. Mammoths are thinkers.. Mammoths are different from horses not only in their behavior in how they handle themselves but also in their conformation differences, and you just gotta love the long ears. And then there is the bray, not another sound like it! If you are interested in one of our mammoths, please give us a call and we will try to answer all of your questions.
