Our mahiʻai, staff, and interns came together for our 7am morning check-in to commemorate Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea. In ceremony, we were reminded that sovereignty is not something we visit once a year. It is something we cultivate together—in our relationships, our work, and our commitment to one another.

West side ➡️ East side.

Our Summer Ramp interns had an awesome day at Kapalai with our friends at Hoʻokuaʻāina ! They learned how to clean kalo, jumped in to help w**d in their lo’i, and got to experience firsthand what it means to mālama ʻāina through service and learning.

Mahalo nui loa to the amazing team at Ho‘okuaʻāina for welcoming us with so much aloha, sharing your ʻike, and creating such a meaningful experience for our interns. Days like these remind us that some of the best lessons happen with our hands in the mud and our hearts connected to the ʻāina. Until next time!

For one of their weekly huakaʻi, FEʻE had the chance to learn from Aunty Manu, Indrajit, and the crew at Niu Now. We started the day with cultural protocol, moʻolelo, and introductions. After, FEʻE intern and “niu-nate” ʻUla walked us around the uluniu at UH West Oʻahu and taught us about the different varieties of niu before guiding us in the hana of w**ding around trees and building a trench for a future lauhala germplasm nursery. We learned about strategies for combatting coconut rhinocerous beetle and the importance of community in planting and maintaining ancestral trees. Without many hands helping with the work, it is challenging to see radical change.

As Aunty Manu shared: Hahai no ka ua i ka ululāʻau. Plant a forest, and the rains will come. Share purpose with others and transform the world.

Three more weeks of learning, growing, and showing up for one another. 🌱

Take a look back at our Summer Ramp Up Program as our interns journeyed through Kaiāulu—strengthening community through farm hana, classroom learning, huakaʻi, and shared experiences. With each week, they’re building the knowledge, confidence, and relationships that will carry them into a strong new school year.

On Saturday July 18th we planted more ʻulu trees to join our farm ʻohana. Mahalo to everyone who put their hands to the soil. These trees will feed our community in the future and continue to build our agroforestry systems.
