We've evolved into the re-earthing of an old farmstead, edible landscapes, a working forest, and Certified Organic Shiitake. First, we are named after Dana Hill Road, which is the crazy bumpy road we live on. It is originally named after the Dana's.. a family who used to run a small farm on the hill. Second, the forest around our house is aptly named the Dana Forest. Third we are a small farm and
our intention is to be a 'forest farm', wherein we cultivate projects in the woods (ie. shiitake, ginseng, nut trees, fruit trees, etc.). We are an agroforestry experiment in the making. Fourth, we happen to be big fans of Helen and Scott Nearing who were old Vermonters who wrote about a special place called Forest Farm. In time, our own story about a forest farm will also be told. Dana Forest Farm is the culmination of many ideas solidified into just a few words. It represents our connection to the past, the feeling of the present, and our vision of farming for the future.
