Well, not your ordinary post here. I’ve got a story to tell and something to sell! This post should display both in my public facebook news and business account. As many of you know, we have been raising grapes for 13 years, at least 8 commercially. A very wise mentor, coached me that I needed to raise larger quantities of desirable varieties, which is what wineries need. Gosh, I so often wish I were still selling grapes to him. Also find winerie(s) that would contract and agree to buy as such. This plan actually worked fairly well for the past five years, but came crashing down unexpectedly this season. I knew something was amiss with the winery, but seemed to have strong position till Spring, though no contract. They declined to contract and made no firm commitment on buying or price. I have not heard a word from the winery since March, though on Facebook, I learn that they are closing. I wish they had notified me sooner of the no contract/ no buy possibility during the off season, months before, so I could have made plans.
So here I am with one of my best crops ever. The popular varieties should total near 8000 #, not huge by large winery standards, but a perfect addition for small to medium wineries buying from multiple local growers. These deals are usually arranged in late Fall and Winter; well I didn’t know then. I cannot believe that a winery somewhere in this 200 mile area would not have a need for these grapes. Unless I make some deals soon, I will have to re-evaluate netting, spraying and harvest, as it would be a waste.
This is what I expect to harvest: Vignoles 2000 #
Frontenac 1500 #+
Itasca 1500 #+
Also available smaller quantities of St Vincent and Fredonia.
So here’s my request. If you are a winery and have interest, please contact me. Come visit, see the vines. Make a deal. If you are a Facebook friend or follower, please share this post so that maybe just the right person in need of grapes this season reads this. The grape business is so much fun when things go well. Thanks…..Ron
