SAVE THE DATE: Let’s Talk Downtown: A Community Conversation

What should the future of downtown Wakefield look like? What is working today? What could be better? And where should we focus our efforts in the years ahead?

Members of the City of Wakefield Planning Commission and City Administration invite you to join us for an informal community conversation about the Downtown Development Survey and long-term planning for the City’s business corridors. Come share your thoughts, ask questions, and help us better understand what matters to the community as this planning process gets underway.

Northwoods General Store & Coffee House has graciously offered to host this community conversation and provide a relaxed setting where residents, business and property owners, employees, and others can come together to talk about Wakefield’s future.

This is not a formal public hearing or presentation. It is an opportunity to sit down, have a conversation, share your thoughts and ideas, talk about opportunities and challenges, ask questions, and hear from others about what they would like to see for the future of our downtown and business corridors.

And since we’ll be gathering at one of our local businesses, grab a drink or an ice cream from Northwoods General Store & Coffee House while you’re there and join the conversation! Drinks and ice cream will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

Supporting a strong downtown and strong business corridors also means supporting the local businesses that invest in our community every day. Whether you’re joining us on September 2 or simply out and about in Wakefield, we encourage everyone to shop local, eat local, and support the businesses that help make our community what it is.

Feedback gathered through the Downtown Development Survey and conversations like this will inform the Planning Commission’s long-term planning efforts and ultimately guide future priorities, projects, grant opportunities, and investment.

Everyone is welcome, and we hope you’ll join us. You do not need to be a business or property owner to participate. This conversation is open to residents, businesses, property owners, employees, and anyone interested in sharing their perspective on downtown Wakefield and the City’s business corridors.

Equipment has been dropped off, beer garden excavation begins tomorrow! If you want to have your inscription memorialized in our beer garden forever, become a Brewery Backer today! You've only got until 09/28!

As a Brewery Backer, you will receive the following:

A 2”x4” brass plaque with your inscription engraved on it. These plaques will be placed on a fence picket, an Adirondack chair, or a picnic table in the beer garden.

Tokens for a free drink of your choice.

Access to the “Backer Bash”, a private, VIP party where you will get your tag and choose the location for your plaque.

Pricing structure:

Fence Picket: $25 (Includes 1 drink token)

Adirondack Chair: $100 (Total Limit 30) (Includes 2 drink tokens)

Picnic Table: $250 (Total Limit 20) (Includes 4 drink tokens)

What a weekend! We've moved a portion of our brewing equipment in (shoutout to Mike Grayson for the help!), we have the beer garden clear for our excavator tomorrow, we have the back bar 90% framed out so our plumber can rough in the taps, and we're officially finished with the "destruction" portion of our renovations! Now it's time for a shower and sleep so we can carry on tomorrow.

When you have to move your overgrown orchard stuck in planter bags to make way for the beer garden, you have to get creative! These bags were too heavy for us to carry that far, so Tyler's idea for moving them all was genius. Beer garden creation starts this coming week!

It's National Dog Day, and what better way to celebrate your furry family than by putting their names in our beer garden! The inscriptions on our Brewery Backer Plaques aren't limited to human names. We welcome dogs in our beer garden, and can't wait to commemorate them! See below for details!

As a Brewery Backer, you will receive the following:

Perfection is the enemy of progress. I had it all set that we were going to finish framing the wall for our back bar tonight and we were going to be able to post photos of it. But that didn't happen and today just became a series of unfortunate events. Nothing is so bad that we cannot continue forward, and we are learning to let go of our ideals of perfectionism as we go through this. You can't build a perfectly square wall to a non square building. Sometimes you have to make a choice for repairing an uneven floor and accept you'll probably have to replace it in 3 years. Sometimes you have really beautiful rafters that you have to cover because you don't have the time to seal them properly before you open. But we have to continue making progress, which means letting go of perfection. We're not perfect, this building isn't perfect, our beers probably won't be perfect, but if we waited until we had everything perfect, we'd never go anywhere. So, we get some sleep, let go of our perfectionism tendencies *again*, and try again tomorrow. Thanks for joining us on this journey.

We’ve been hard at work getting the brewing area ready to go, and as we are narrowing down our opening date, we wanted to give you an opportunity to get involved with our project! We chose Wakefield for the community, and this is a chance for YOU to put your mark in our beer garden. Starting TODAY, Monday 8/24, we are announcing our Brewery Backers program. This is separate from a mug club, which will be announced soon. This is a one-time, limited event running through September 28, 2026!

Well this looks VERY different from the day we bought the building, but after a lot of work, we've got the first stages of the brewing area done! Putting up fiberglass reinforced panels were not for the faint of heart, but it's worth it. Next steps are to epoxy the floors and we are just that much closer to being ready to brew and having an opening date to reveal!
