We discovered Lacy dogs 14 years ago and fell in love with their intelligence, bidability, natural hunting and scenting abilities; strong prey and food drive; protectiveness; athleticism; and grit. After making six trips to Texas and shipping in others, to aquire most of our stock, we knew that a Lacy dog’s skill set could be used by the blood trackers, hog and small game hunters and cattlemen on the east coast.
Our first Lacy dog litter was born in 2011. Each year we’ve bred two to three females to our studs and occasionally an outside stud. We’ve had our sorrows that go along with breeding and raising dogs, but, most of all, we enjoy seeing new Lacy dog owners fall in love with this breed and seeing our puppies succeed at their jobs. Many owners have remarked that “they’ve never seen or owned a dog as versatile as a Lacy” and “I wish I’d known about these dogs sooner”.
Our dogs range from 17 3/4” to 19 1/2” at the shoulder and weigh 32 to 50 lbs; females are smaller than males. I look for intelligence, grit, bidability and strong food and prey drive, correct bites and conformation in our breeding stock. We have tri, red and blue colored dogs. And while we do not breed specifically for color, our stud has only produced blues even when bred to a red or tri.
Lacy dogs aren’t the dog for everyone. Lacy dogs are a working breed. They are energetic, protective, cautious, athletic, possess strong prey and food drives, and herding instinct. Many love to dig for moles. Many will retreive. Most can and some will clear a 4 1/2 foot fence. Lacys are alert and great for detecting intruders. These dogs bond closely with their owners. Being a working breed, they need mental stimulation and physical excercise.
