Thank you for highlighting the work of women farmers! I am honored to be part of this group.

According to the 2022 census, women represent 43% of agricultural producers in Maine, higher than the national average!

Please remember that when you shop directly from producers, about .64 of every dollar spent stays in the local community.

At East Forty Farm in Waldoboro, Allison has earned recognition for her award-winning Lakin's Gorges Cheese, including a Silver Medal at the 2025 World Cheese Awards. But what truly sets her apart is the way she brings people together around Maine agriculture.

From her “Cowside Suppers," where guests enjoy meals crafted by guest chefs alongside curious Jersey cows, to the everyday care she gives her animals, land, and customers, Allison creates meaningful connections between people and the farms that nourish them.

Thank you, Allison. We’re proud to celebrate you during the Year of the Woman Farmer in Maine 2026.

Cowside Suppers 2026 reservations open today, 5/25/26 at 11am!

This is the 9th season of our popular farm to table meals, which center on the cheese, meat and produce from here at , supplemented with other local foods.

Held in the Hay Loft, they are limited to 20 guests and are offered June to October. It’s white cloth service meets cow bells- rustic elegance.

We are a dairy farm in Waldoboro, Maine. We make award winning cheese, regenerative agriculture, and raise pork, beef and veal.

Two changes this year. We’re hired Chef Alexandra Ellis, owner of , to cook for the entire season.

Second, we’ve added lunch on the first Sunday of the month. Dinner will still be the third Sunday of the month.

Last year, the whole season sold out in 6 hours, so we hope lunch will help relieve that pressure.

These are special events that happen around our regular farming duties- we will break off in the evenings to go milk cows!

Please visit the website AFTER 11am 5/25, to make your reservation.

For Farmer’s Movement has launched a people’s choice grant competition. Farms have submitted 60 second videos for their appeal. You must vote for 5 farms and the top vote getters receive a $1000 grant.

We are requesting support to install more fencing to exclude cows from waterways and make it easier for them to graze in the forest.

We’re taking orders for bulk pork until 4/30

Taking orders for whole and half hogs until 4/30- sorry, we cannot ship.

A whole hog will weigh about 200-250 pounds hanging weight and will cost $4.50 per pound. (est $950- $1187)

A half hog will weigh about 100-125 pounds hanging weight and will cost $4.75 per pound. (EST $475-$593)

A whole hog will require a 7 cu. ft. freezer, like a small chest freezer. A half hog will fill the top freezer of a refrigerator.
You then work with the processor, Curtis Meats in Warren, to select the cuts and what smoking you want, and pay them directly. It’s approximately $400 for cut, cure, cryo wrap, freeze for a whole and $200 a half. Total time until pick up averages 3 weeks, around May 18.

We require a $100 deposit for a half and $200 for a whole. Your total will be calculated after the hog is processed.

Please email or call Allison to reserve a whole or half. [email protected] or 207-230-4318

Welcome to the herd!

Saturday, Astrid, who was not due until Tuesday, gave birth to heifer Nutmeg around midnight. (Photos 3 &4)

Monday, Joy, who was due last Thursday, gave us bull Mace. One again proving the adage that late birth will be a bull. (Photos 1 & 2)

These were both first calf heifers and both required some assistance letting their calves suckle. Last year we bought a cow handling system that has a headlock and a squeeze chute with removable sides, which meant we could keep the cow steady while the calf figured out how to latch on to the teat.

They’re both old pros now.

I was thinking about how many births we’ve had here since 2016-
Darla: 6
Lottie: 8
Libby: 5
Dulcie: 4
Dorrie: 3 *
Nettle: 3
Lana: 5
Luna: 3 *
Gertie: 1
Mabel: 3 *
Trixie: 2 *
Bramble: 2 *

Stars mean giving birth later this year.

We have 6 heifers who we are just starting to breed for next year.

What happens with all of them? Some are raised to be future milk cows, some are sold and some are part of our beef program. But they’re all raised the same way- drinking milk, grazing grass, eating forage, not confined. And , of course, all their milk becomes

Known by name and loved by their two farmers, Allison and Neal.

My favorite announcement! We buy our plant starts from the High School every year for the the farm’s vegetable gardens.

It’s a great program, and very economical.

Calling all Green Thumbs or inspiring ones. Save the date!
