We will be at the mankatofarmersmarket tomorrow Saturday, September 26th from 8-noon rain or shine and we’d really appreciate your support this weekend!

I mean, we ALWAYS, appreciate your support but with the flooding we experienced and the rainy market forecast we REALLY need to move these veggies.

So make a plan to shop the market tomorrow. So much of what we have available can be canned or frozen to enjoy all winter long.

❤️ you Mankato!!

After catastrophic flooding, what’s left? On this sunny day I took a field walk to see how things are doing. Here’s what avoided the floods:

Tomatoes! As long as they don’t crack we will have tomatoes. Rapid changes in soil moisture can cause tomatoes to crack and spoil. So far, our tomatoes look good!

Transplants! A few more inches of water and our transplants would have been floating down the Cobb River. SO glad they didn’t so we can’t start planting again when it dries out.

Carrots! It’s wet down there but the carrots are still ok. Needs to dry out quickly so we avoid rot.

Cabbage & Broccoli! Fall favorites that avoided flood waters.

Scallions!

Radish & Lettuce - farmer error and high ground means we will have radish for the fall! Lettuce is 2-3 weeks from harvest.

Peppers! Also in high ground, all of our field peppers survived.

Popcorn! It will take a bit of time for the popcorn kernels to dry to the right moisture level but we have a nice popcorn crop this year.

Not pictured: winter squash, garlic, onions, spinach, microgreens, potatoes, shallots, kale, cilantro & more.

Make no mistake, the flooding caused significant crop losses and will cause financial stress. Most of that is because 90% of our fall lettuce was flooded. Lettuce is our top selling crop by far but we are thankful these other crops survived.
