It’s one of our most favorite days of the year as Christmas tree farmers—working the Indiana Christmas Tree Growers Association booth at the Indiana State Fair! 🎄🎡

Sadly, Birch Island Farm doesn’t have an entry this year because I planned a little poorly. The State Fair opened a week later than usual, and while our Christmas tree farming friends were here collecting ribbons and accolades, I was busy getting my kicks on Route 66 in Chicago, oh yeah and working that job that still pays the bills! 😂 Sometimes you just can’t be two places at once.

Rick, of course, found his Indiana State Police trooper buddy. They’re stationed right across from us every year, and the two of them always manage to have a nice long conversation. It’s become a State Fair tradition all its own.

And while we certainly don’t need the rain, there is one advantage: Rick isn’t sitting here stewing and muttering, “I should be mowing. I should be spraying. I should be shearing…” 🌧️🎄😂

So come on down and see us! We’re so happy to be here representing Shelby County and Waldron in particular. ❤️

I even had a Wanamaker lady stop to chat and ask if we were familiar with The Coffman Review. Of course we are! We love our friends at the Coffman Review and appreciate how much they do to promote our little corner of Indiana.

Christmas trees in August, corn dogs at the State Fair, good friends and a rainy Sunday…sounds about right.

Summer scenes and scents on Birch Island Farm.

My fat thumbs keep misspelling Birch as the other “B” word. Thankfully, the second air conditioner is keeping the house cool enough that I am not becoming the second “B” word myself. Hoping to get that remedied this week!

I just wanted to share some of our wildflowers and volunteer flowers that decided to pop up on their own. My favorite is the echinacea, or coneflower. It just makes me happy, and the bees and butterflies seem to agree.

We are also scanning the fields for the perfect tree for the Indiana State Fair. Rick will continue to ride the mower and work the sprayer, and before you know it, we’ll be thinking pumpkins, mums, and all things fall.

Yes we really do use Beaver Nut Scrub 🦫🌰🤣. It easily removes the sap without drying out your hands. Otherwise I wouldn’t dare touch those cones without gloves.
