The Oconee Farm Crawl is tomorrow! We are so excited that “The Foothills Homesteader” will be joining us again. Tara will have her amazing tallow products. I highly recommend her tallow balm moisturizer. It is exactly what our hard working hands need to heal!
Her farmstand is on Popular Springs Road. At her farm stand, you will find her awesome tallow products as well as her delicious baked goods.

The Oconee Farm Crawl is happening this weekend. You are going to love our guest speaker! Jon Fritz will be speaking at 11 AM. He will walk the pollinator gardens with you and share his vast knowledge of landscaping with natives, especially in HOA neighborhoods. Come early and get one-on-one advice from him.

An Upstate native, Jon graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture in 2009. After graduation, he worked as a Wildfire Effects Monitor in the southern plains states, where he was inspired by the natural beauty and diversity of prairie ecosystems. He has been designing residential landscapes in the area for more than 15 years, working for Zone 7 Nursery and Byrd Landscape Design before starting his own business, Bluestem Landscape Design, LLC, in 2015. Helping hundreds of residential clients realize their dream landscapes, Jon strives to merge the needs of the clients and the environment to produce landscapes that are both beautiful and ecologically functional. He also holds certifications in permaculture design and designing Outdoor Learning Environments for children.

Unfortunately, most of us are all dealing with deer pressure in the garden. Check out Shannon’s presentation for the 2026 Golden Corner Native Plant Festival!

We are very excited to welcome Shannon Currey to Seneca for the 2026 Golden Corner Native Plant Festival.

Meet in the Exhibition Hall at 2:00 PM for her presentation, "Native Perennials for Gardening in Deer Territory."
Having deer in your space can challenge even the most wildlife-friendly gardener. Some
days it feels like your garden is an open buffet. This session focuses on gardening with
perennials under deer pressure. From phytochemicals to structural adaptations, many
plants have evolved strategies to minimize browsing. No plant is completely off limits
with the hungry hordes, but there are species that rarely make the menu. There are also
species and strategies that can facilitate co-existence. Join us for a look at native
perennials that will give you beauty and ecological benefits even if you’re gardening in
deer territory.

Shannon Currey is a horticultural educator with Izel Native Plants. She’s worked in the
nursery trade since 2006, developing expertise in grasses and sedges and expanding
her knowledge into native perennials. Shannon has written for national publications and
traveled the country speaking to professional organizations, community groups, and at
public gardens. She currently serves on the North Carolina Plant Conservation Program
Scientific Committee, holds advisory roles with several organizations, and served on the
Board of the Perennial Plant Association. Shannon lives in Durham, North Carolina and
loves exploring gardens and native flora everywhere she goes.
