Coop update: last week I rescued this cutie patootie (Cochin rooster) from the BRASS surgery Center parking lot. We named him Brass and he has turned out to be the cutest, sweetest little guy. (Why are the sweetest ones always roosters?) He has quickly become one of my son’s favorites! I am currently looking for anyone with Cochin hens to keep him company! So if you know anyone please reach out to me.

Updates from the Coop:

-Krissy is one of our juveniles and she has crossbeak. This is my second time caring for a crossbeak chicken. Krissy is doing so good and has really adapted to foraging. She also gets a mash of layer crumbles, egg, and water twice a day.

-Dottie is another young hen. She is one of our Whiting True Blues and she is super friendly. She loves to fly up on shoulders and hang out.

-We are still getting 20-30 eggs a day from our layers. Eggs are 4/dozen if anyone is interested.

Coy and I (Mom) “rescued” this chicken from Starbucks in Walker today! And it was not easy to do! She had a hurt toe and we brought her back to the house and fixed her right up! In a remarkable stroke of luck, we were able to find her owner. She had stowed away in the back of a pickup truck and rode for miles! Her owner said she is always getting into mischief. I’m so glad we were able to patch her up and get her home safely. We temporarily named her Venti. She even laid an egg in Coy’s lap on the way home. Lol.

One of our chicks was born with curly toe paralysis which makes it hard for her to stand and walk. Luckily it’s an easy fix. Just had to make her some shoes to splint her toes and we will re-evaluate tomorrow!

I have eggs available! 4/dozen. Our hens are fed a high quality feed/scratch blend and get vegetables, fruits, and extra protein several times a week. They free range 8-10 hours per day most days.
