Plant-Based Walla Walla Celebrating the people, places, and plant-friendly spaces in and around Walla Walla, Washington.

Factory farms are a blight on the agricultural landscape, they are known, heavy industrial polluters that create negative impacts in the communities where they operate, and they can be unsafe environments for humans to work. (Not to mention the misery that they cause the animals stuck in the system!) If you travel through Sunnyside you can see (and smell) large-scale dairy operations and feed lots that resemble nothing like the peaceful, pastoral life we all want for farm animals. Now, there is a proposal to incentivize factory farming in Yakima by establishing a factory farm gas facility to capture the emissions created by factory farms. It would be the largest of its kind in the nation. Please consider sending a message to the Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency to encourage them to oppose this facility. https://actionbutton.nationbuilder.com/share/SPK-QElDQkA=

There are some great Public Workshops coming up at the Sustainable Living Center this year. The topics include food preservation, gardening, composting, hydroponics, and even a "Better Eating for You and the Earth" event that will look at the benefits of the plant-based diet. If you're looking to incorporate more plant-based ingredients into your diet or just want to learn more about what "plant-based" even means, join Plant-Based Walla Walla and other community members at the "Better Eating" workshop. Being vegetarian or vegan is not required! We hope to see you there! 🥑🍓💚💪

The SLC offers educational public workshops on energy savings, renewable energy, and conservation of resources. Recent workshops included information on water conservation, composting, solar energy and toxic free cleaning kits.

Try something different this like a food and wine pairing. Or celebrate a special day with a new experience! Or just support your local economy and shop local. There are so many great reasons to give Veganuary a try. We enjoyed the vegan winery luncheon at Pepper Bridge Winery catered by Hattaway's on Alder for Toby's birthday! It was thoughtful, creative, delicious—and the wine pairings were delightful! 🌱🍷Thanks to our wonderful Walla Walla Valley Wine community for being inclusive and making room for us and other plant-based peeps!

Happy Veganuary! Have you tried all these dishes, and eaten local at all these great spots? Thanks to TMACS, Graze- 'A Place to Eat, The Happy Wanderer Urban Mexican Food, Canvasback, Pepper Bridge Winery, Andy's Market and The Salted Mill for the inclusive, fun, and creative plant-based dishes you offer through your menus, programs, and events. Food for thought: Would better representation of plant-based foods here in wine country be one way to boost the much-talked about slump in tourism and down traffic everywhere? When more people (vegetarians, vegans, pescatarians, and those with allergies, sensitivities, or following a religious diet) see their dietary choices reflected in a locale, this creates inclusivity and recognizes the needs of others beyond what's "normal" or "traditional." Zero Proof Walla Walla (and 👏 Cia Cortinas Rood 👏) has shown it works with non alcoholic drinks. If we are looking for more people to come experience the beauty and all there is to do here in Walla Walla and boost the economy with their tourism dollars, we need to make space for a greater range of people, interests, and diets.

Veganuary is a cleverly-named campaign that uses the month of January to raise awareness about the many benefits of the vegan, or plant-based, diet. For visitors interested in local vegan eats, Walla Walla has much to offer in January (and beyond). Here are some must-try dishes, experiences, and res...

The January challenge asks people to go vegan for a month. With lots of plant-based milks, meats and cheeses, it may be easier than ever.

Did someone say, "plant-based charcuterie?" Here in wine country, THIS is the content we are here for!

This beautiful board is a recent addition to Canvasback's menu of small bites, and features artisan cheeses (smoked gouda, dill havarti) and meats (capicola and pepperoni) that pair perfectly with the winery's bold and flavorful Red Mountain wines. 'Cuterie producers are brother and sister cuties The Herbivorous Butcher, makers of award-winning and super zesty vegan cold cuts.

Are there any other wineries or tasting rooms in Walla Walla Valley Wine country offering plant-forward nibbles or small plates for vegan or plant-curious guests to pair with wines? Please let us know so we can spread the word!

***Show up on your bike or tell Toby at Canvasback that Plant-Based Walla Walla sent you for 10% off this brutal board!***
