Turtle Fact of the Week!

Diego the Galápagos tortoise is famous for his vital role in saving his species from extinction. He spent the years of 1940 to 1977 at a breeding center in the San Diego Zoo. There he became known as the "Super Stud" as well as a hero to the community. He successfully fathered over 900 offspring. He was returned to the Galápagos in 1977 where he still resides today.

Happy World Turtle Day!

Established in 2000 by American Tortoise Rescue, the day raises awareness about the threats these ancient reptiles face and encourages conservation efforts to help them thrive.

Why May 23rd?

The date coincides with the peak of nesting season for many turtle species in the Northern Hemisphere.

Turtle Fact of the Week!

Sea Turtles (like Leatherbacks and Hawksbills) create decoy nests by scattering sand and creating false diggings around their actual egg chamber. These fake nests mask the scent and visual cues of real nests. Research shows that these deceptive nests can dramatically delay or stop predators from locating the actual buried eggs. Only one in 1,000 egg hatchlings will make it to maturity and these types of tactics can increase those chances significantly.

Spent yesterday at the Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center in Prosser WA for the first annual DTC Wine Symposium. It was a really interesting day spent hearing from industry insiders on how to better serve our customers. The proceeds from the symposium went to a national grassroots orginization who seek to remove bans and streamline restrictions in states that prevent consumers from purchasing wine directly from wineries.

For those wondering Walter Clore was a pioneering horticulturist recognized as the father of Washington wine. I also learned that he was a teetotaler. Which I found facinating.

Thank you to all of the presenters. Steve Gross .wines Moya Dolsby Josh McDonald Jana McKamey Alyson LaVarnway Erica Mavens April Reddout Drake Kuykendell .kuykendall Steve Kilisky Jamie Iseminger-Jamie Brian Zawada Keri Wells Rachel Erickson

It was really neat to hear from so many different industry perspectives. It definitly helps create new ideas on how best I can serve my customers and the community.

Anyone interested in how to encourage your state to loosen regulations surrounding wine shipments check out freethegrapes.org

I started my career just down the road from the Walter Clore Center. Always fun to visit Prosser and go down memory lane.

Cheers

Turtle Fact of the Week!

Sometimes turtles ride alligators and crocodiles. But why? ... I have no Idea. I could not find the answer. One online expert says "I don't know. I think it's more that they're both basking animals, and turtles fit on crocs." If anyone knows the answer please let me know in the comments.

Still pretty cool.

Turtle Wines are now available

Rocket Market isn't just a grocery store ... it's a whole vibe.

726 E. 43rd Ave. Spokane, WA

Tucked up on Spokane's South Hill, this spot has been a neighborhood staple since 1999, built around the idea to bring together local food, wine, and community in one place.

From the moment you walk in it feels like a curated treasure hunt. But what really makes it special is the experience. Grab a coffee and a pastry, order something from the deli, or pick out a bottle of wine and hang out on the patio. On any given day you might catch live music, a wine class, or just neighbors gathering to enjoy the moment.

Its the kind of place where you go in for one thing and leave with five, and somehow that feels exactly how it should be.

A small market of epic proportions!

If your in the South Hill area definitly go check them out.
