Taking down this ailing Norway maple today. I never like taking trees down but time takes its toll and sometimes you need to make room for the next generation. I think client may have some home-grown burr oaks to take over for the maple.

This family of horse chestnut seedlings is a reminder that in nature everything is cyclical and there is no waste. Last summer after pruning the parent tree I raked up the leaves, twiggy debris and fallen nuts and dumped them back home among a grove of old black locust. A few weeks ago this little tribe emerged. No fussy stratification. No soil amending. No careful planting. Just stepping back to let the seeds take their own course in their own time. These kiddos will spend the summer here in the shade of the locusts and then be moved to their forever homes this winter. Thanks wee ones for coming to visit. Im glad to know you.
