Great mares have nothing to prove, they fix their crowns and wow the haters!! 🦄💓👑

She was never the fastest horse in the field. No garlands draped her neck. No grandstand ever shook for her. But Somethingroyal didn't need the spotlight — because she was quietly building something the world had never seen before.

And you'll never look at greatness the same way again once you understand what she actually gave us.

She carried royal blood — daughter of the legendary Princequillo, a mare steeped in champion lineage. But here's what history doesn't say loudly enough: her destiny wasn't to *be* the legend. It was to *birth* one.

Can you even imagine the quiet weight of that?

In 1970, under the still Virginia sky at Meadow Farm, Somethingroyal delivered her thirteenth foal. A big chestnut c**t. Legs like stilts. A blazing stripe down his face. And something in his eyes that made you pause — something wild and certain at the same time.

He was awkward. Too big. Too bold. Too much of everything.

But she stood over him gently — patient, knowing — like a mother who already understood what the rest of the world would take years to see.

They named him Secretariat.

From the quiet paddocks of Meadow Farm to the thunderous roar of Belmont Park — she watched every stride. From a wobbly foal nipping at her tail to a stallion rewriting the record books. She watched him become the athlete that stopped time. And she passed something to him in every stride he ever took — her power, her grace, her unshakeable pride.

She didn't need a trophy. She had *him*.

He shattered records. He crushed Triple Crown history. He didn't just run — he *flew*, in a way no horse before or since has ever matched. And behind every moment of that glory stood a mare the cameras never followed.

Somethingroyal lived to see him crowned.

She lived to see the entire world fall in love with her son.

In her later years, she remained the quiet empress of Meadow Farm — the matriarch no one put on a poster, the mother no one quite celebrated enough. When she passed in 1988 at the age of 31, she left behind more than a legacy of foals.

She left behind *proof* that sometimes the greatest thing you can do in this life is pour everything you are into someone else's greatness.

Not every legend wears the crown. Some of them *make* it.

Who in your life deserves to be seen the way Somethingroyal deserved to be seen? Share this and let someone know they matter.

Let’s be real for a minute—this industry has a long-standing habit of using useful idiots as mouthpieces.

The “elite” programs and power players are masters at it. They’ll keep certain folks close enough to feel important. You’ll get invited into the conversation just enough to think you’re in the room. You’ll get hyped, validated, and encouraged to defend the system—because it benefits them, not you.

And you’ll do it. Publicly. Loudly. For free.

But when it’s time for real opportunity—real access, real backing, real inclusion—you won’t be there. Because you were never part of the inner circle. You were convenient. You were useful. You were a microphone.

This industry doesn’t reward loyalty.
It rewards utility.

If your value disappears the moment you stop parroting someone else’s narrative, you were never valued to begin with. And if defending the status quo is the only way you’re allowed to stay “relevant,” ask yourself who that relevance actually serves.

Food for thought.

Let’s talk about something near and dear to my heart: broodmares and recip mares.

If you’re in the breeding game—especially if you expect to be taken seriously—you need to start acting like it. Quality doesn’t begin with a stallion ad or a pedigree on paper. It starts with how you care for the horses that carry your program.

I see it far too often: broodmares whose feet haven’t been touched in years, recip mares that look like they just walked off a feedlot—sometimes coming from farms that people are supposed to look up to as leaders in this industry.

If your broodmare or recip mare looks no better than a kill-pen special, that’s not “cutting costs,” that’s negligence.

These horses are not placeholders. They are not disposable tools. They literally carry the future of your program—and in many cases, your livelihood. Their care should reflect the value they provide.

At the bare minimum, they deserve:
• Regular farrier care
• Routine veterinary attention—not just when they’re hauled in to see a reproductive specialist to be bred, flushed, or aspirated
• Proper nutrition
• Clean living conditions
• And yes—basic kindness and handling

Leadership in breeding isn’t about how loud your name is or how many foals you produce. It’s about standards. And if we want this industry to improve, we need to stop excusing poor care—especially when it comes from those who claim to be at the top.

Do better. Our mares deserve it.

A system that only spotlights what already wins doesn’t create competition—it suppresses it. It doesn’t foster innovation—it freezes it. And it doesn’t merely “reflect demand”—it manufactures hierarchy by continuously feeding attention to those who already have it.

Greed has always pushed out the little guy. The only difference now is people are trying to rebrand it as “scale” and “ethics” because it benefits them today. If a program wants to be honest, that’s fine—say it plainly: it’s designed to protect the top tier, not grow the whole tier. But don’t sell growth while delivering a funnel.

Calling Serious Breeders & Those Building a Program

Alright folks—this one is for the breeders who are thinking long-term, not just next year.

We’re opening a very limited number of our nicest mares for ET and ICSI because we genuinely believe access to exceptional quality shouldn’t be restricted to only a select few. More importantly, we don’t just have the mares—we have the experience and knowledge to help guide you through the process, especially if you’re getting your program off the ground.

These opportunities will be offered on a select few mares only, as we still need to get our own foals on board 😊. Quality and care come first, and we’re intentional about how and when these mares are made available.

Our mare power spans cutting, reined cow horse, and reining lines, with proven results that consistently produce talent, brains, and longevity—not just paper.

We’ll be sharing a series of follow-up posts with individual mare bios, so you can make an informed, educated decision about your future champion, cornerstone prospect, or once-in-a-lifetime dream horse 🦄💓

If you’re serious about building something that lasts—and want access paired with real support—stay tuned.
