What started as a small idea to help our Spokane neighbors became something so much bigger because of all of you. Together, we raised $4,000 for the Spokane Wildfire Response Fund.

Thank you to The Drayman House for donating the space , The Mill in Downtown Walla Walla - Grab & Go Market for donating the delicious food , and the SMAK-Artifex team - Annie, Emma, Neil and Sophia - for donating their time.

To everyone who came, purchased wine from near and far, donated, shared our posts, and helped spread the word, thank you, we couldn’t have done it without you.

Tomorrow, we’re taking over Drayman House for an evening of wine, snacks, community, and giving back, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the Spokane Wildfire Response Fund.

As residents of the PNW, wildfires are sadly no stranger to us. This summer, our Spokane neighbours have been hit especially hard by devastating fires, with homes and businesses lost and a long road to recovery.

On Saturday 8/29 from 5 to 7:3opm, SMAK is hosting a fundraiser at Drayman House, who has very generously donated their space for the evening. I’ll be serving Rosé & snacks and offering bottles for purchase, with 100% proceeds benefiting the Spokane Wildfire Response Fund.

Our Washington Wine Community stretches across the state. When one of our communities is hurting, I believe in showing up for one another however we can.

For those who cannot join us in person, our online sales will be donated as well, giving our community near and far a way to participate.

The clock is officially ticking! 🍇

Veraison marks the moment grapes begin to change colour and ripen and is nearly complete on our Syrah and Grenache.

From here, we’re looking at roughly four weeks until harvest. The berries will continue to ripen, flavours will develop, acidity will shift, and we’ll be watching (and tasting 👀) closely as we wait for that just right moment to pick.

And for those of you asking when your sold-out favourites are coming back…They’re currently hanging on the vine. 😉

August is one of my favourite months of the year. Across Washington, wineries are raising a glass to , a month-long celebration of the incredible wines made right here in our home state.

It also happens to be Rosé Month, which means I am doubly excited!

At SMAK, these two celebrations couldn’t have been a better fit. Since day one, my mission has been to demonstrate just how versatile, food-friendly, and worthy Washington Rosé can be. Every still Rosé is crafted from a single vineyard and a single varietal, a challenging approach that allows each bottle to showcase the very best of Washington’s vineyards, grapes and the quality they can produce.

This month, I’d invite you to celebrate local, support Washington wineries, and discover (or rediscover) your favourite SMAK Rosé.

Kinda chic in hindsight. A lot less chic while you’re living it.

Every chapter of SMAK has asked me to take a chance on myself, on rosé, and on my belief that there was room to do things a little differently.

What started as a journey to become a winemaker became something much bigger than just making wine.

SMAK has become a way to share where I come from, to champion Washington wine, to bring food and wine together across cultures, and to collaborate with incredible chefs, winemakers, women-owned businesses and fellow AAPI entrepreneurs.

We may no longer have four walls to call home, but maybe that’s given us more ways to connect with food, people and wine.

The future of SMAK is about building community, creating experiences, making connections, and bringing people together over a bottle of rosé.

Because it was never just about the winery.

Inspired by a desire to create something meaningful for her community, Kari Nelson left her career to open Testimony Wine Bar in Redmond, Oregon. Together with her husband Michael, she built a warm, welcoming wine bar where great conversations, delicious Pacific Northwest wines and genuine hospitality takes stage. One of my favourite ways to spend a Seattle summer? A bottle of Summer Rosé, some snacks and a day on the water.

Huge shoutout to our Wine Club Members Chris & Dyanna Lyon for taking me out last weekend! Everything you see here came from Kitchen & Market at Yarrow Bay, the perfect stop before heading out on the lake. They have our sold-out Summer Rosé, plus delicious grab-and-go meats, cheeses and dips (don’t forget croutons!).

Heading to Vashon Island instead? Make a Rosé Stop at Wildwood Market before the ferry. Our favs: the Salmon Caesar + hummus plate + Summer Rosé.
