Today I reached an exciting milestone with Queen of Coops: I packaged and shipped out the very first Queen of Coops DIY kit for delivery to an Instagram influencer, Ghee and Grove, and will be packaging up a second one that will go out to The Hot Mess Homestead on Thursday. It’s been a very long road to get to this point. It took me nearly 4 hours to pack this first one but now that I know how to do it, I’m hoping to cut that time down considerably. The next thing I need to do is build a pallet turner because shrink-wrapping this monolith kicked my ass! I can’t wait to see them built!

Check out the Queen of Coops website for more information about this “Heart of. A Homestead in a 11.5x12.5 footprint that includes my patent-pending Supernova Roof System, Tilt ‘N Slide compo-roost, integrated compost bin, raised garden beds, and a coop-and-run all in one.

Are you sick of having a soggy coop floor? I sure was. Even with 12in of woodchips, my coop bedding was just as wet on the inside as the outside ground. That's why weather aprons around all four sides are a huge upgrade with the Queen of Coops system. And they serve multiple purposes! They keep predators and rain out simultaneously. Check out more of the coops many features at the link in our bio!

The Gothic arch is not only beautiful but changes the game when it comes to coop ventilation. Have you ever walked into your coop during the winter and it's almost raining inside from condensation? This roof system is how we solved that problem. Learn more at the link in our bio!

For my deep litter, I like to use straw, fall leaves, and wood shavings. What have you found works best for your coop?

Reusing your coop's deep litter to then benefit your garden was a huge inspiration for our coop system. For me this year, that looked like a giant compost pile that I'm now adding to my new garden beds. With a Queen of Coops, the chicken waste can compost in a contained area on the back of the coop making this a much tidier system.

Who else feels like they can get rusty with gardening 😅 Today I'm filling the raised garden beds for our prototype chicken coop. So much of my time has been spent designing Queen of Coops and it feels so great to finally get my hands dirty again, doing one of the things I love!

The first Queen of Coops system is finally taking shape! The placeholder roof has been installed and the hole that is essential to coop ventilation is cut. I'll be showing you soon how the whole Gothic arch ventilation system works. And almost everything that needed to get done for the protoype is now complete so stay tuned for a full coop tour coming next week!

The roof is coming together! Now what I made today is not nearly as durable and visually appealing as what will come in the kit but it'll have to do for now.

The arch cap we are building is not just part of the chicken coop's roof but it plays a huge role in climate control and weather protection inside of the coop. Keep following to learn more!

These factors are what guided me in creating the Queen of Coops system. It's designed to be a chicken coop that acts like a mini homestead. This coop keeps itself clean, manages drastic temperatures, and stays dry in wet seasons. It also provides you and the chickens with a garden! They can enjoy grazing from inside their coop while you harvest greens along with their eggs.

Cold frame covers are a game changer! They can act like a mini greenhouse, extend growing seasons and help out gardeners in more extreme climates. These covers are a part of the Queen of Coops System and attach to chicken coop's custom tarp. I also put in the predator weather apron which aids in keeping out pesky predators and helps with coop drainage!

I'm starting this fresh garden bed off with some lettuce, what's your favorite vegetable to start with? 🫛🥕🥬

Little problems like what I ran into here are the foundation of why I created Queen of Coops. The stuff that's out there on the market today just does not cut it for keeping my chicks happy in the harsh temperatures we have in Idaho. From the condensation build up (even with insulation) to incorrect tarp sizes to excessive cleaning, I knew there was a better way to do this.

Keep following along to see how I engineered these issues away in our chicken coop system. This is another step towards creating our patented Gothic Arch Ventilation System. Follow the link in our bio to learn more about our unique coop ventilation system that eliminates moisture!
