Lighter - By Nature Malbec
While we are always excited to share new releases with our community, some wines carry a richer narrative than others.
Our Malbec vineyard is still relatively young, yet it has already had a phenomenal start, producing several standout vintages and contributing beautifully to our last reserve blend.
However, nature occasionally throws a curveball, as we saw during the intense summer of 2024.
The heat stressed the vines, and while the fruit tasted wonderful, it never reached the higher sugar levels we typically expect. Despite knowing this would result in a lower alcohol content, we decided to harvest and ferment the fruit anyway to see exactly how this unique expression would progress. The result of that decision is the Bridgehead Malbec "Lighter by Nature," an exceptionally fun and vibrant red wine that leans into its environment rather than fighting it. It pours a brilliant ruby color and immediately opens with fresh aromas of marionberry, cherry cola, and garden herbs. On the palate, the wine demonstrates a light mouthfeel characterized by zippy acidity and a remarkably clean finish. As you wait for your next sip, subtle hints of honeysuckle and ripe plum begin to mingle with unexpected notes of oyster shell, creating a layered and refreshing experience that evolves in the glass.
