Hello dear friends and valued customers, we just sent out a newsletter sharing an important update, which we will share here as well.
First of all, we want to send a warm thank you to everyone who supported our small family farm this season. Whether it was becoming a CSA member, visiting our road side stand, or shopping with us at one of our farmers market locations, we are incredibly lucky and grateful to grow food for our community. Thank you for choosing to buy local and support small farms such as ours.
For 20 years, Bruce has been farming in Walpole. He has raised his children here and grown tens, if not hundreds of thousands of pounds of organic produce. He has formed friendships with customers and grown to rely on the familiar faces of his frequent shoppers at the Keene Farmers market. When Bruce and I met, he shared his dream of farming in Maine. We decided we'd continue to farm together here at Abenaki Springs and make improvements while keeping our eyes open for opportunities in Maine. Throughout the years we have checked out a handful of farms in Maine, in case anything seemed fitting. That being said, we have accepted an opportunity to manage a farm on the Maine coast and will be closing our operations here at Abenaki Springs Farm by the end of the year. While we are sad to leave behind all that has been built here, we are filled with excitement for this new chapter ahead. It is invigorating to set out on a new trajectory, and we're looking forward to what lies ahead of us. It is a bittersweet endeavor, to leave a familiar place and start anew someplace else. Our commitment to organic agriculture leads us to believe we are leaving this land better than it was found.
For those who'd like to wish us an in person goodbye or stock up on the last of the produce we'll have to offer, we will plan on keeping our road side stand stocked as we are able (we will stock it on Wednesdays, or as needed). We will officially close our road side stand permanently by Thanksgiving. While we are not raising Thanksgiving turkeys this year, we should have plenty of vegetables for your Thanksgiving meal. Winter squashes, rutabaga, greens, sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, carrots, onions, etc. We're still running a bulk special on storage carrots. These carrots will last for months in your cool cellar, basement or extra fridge. 25lbs unwashed for $45 and 25lbs washed for $60. Please email us to order these.
We've had a few people already ask us about joining our CSA next season, and while we won't be here, there are many other wonderful farms who offer vegetable CSA programs in our region. Dog Days Farm, Hillside Springs Farm, Nubi River Farm, Sun Moon Farm, Milkweed Farm, Winter Street Farm, and Stonewall Farm just to name a few; and we hope to see more farms in the future.
Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your support throughout these years. We feel so blessed to know you have enjoyed the food we have grown. We hope we have made a difference in this community, no matter how small.
With gratitude,
Bruce, Kirsten & family
