Fridays are for.....planning?
Sure, why not!
It is time to really hone in on what we want to see in the future here at Crosby Lake Farm.
Our goal for the future generations of Olive Eggers is more speckling. We invested in 2 lines of Welsummers recently, unfortunately shipping was unkind with both AND neither had great hatch rates. Fingers crossed we have a usable rooster, because ideally, ALL of our Olive Eggers will be placed under a Welsummer as soon as we have one of age.
Our plans for Cream Legbars (which we have discussed prior) are homozygous blue testing of ladies and moving slightly more toward weeding out birds that may not check all the boxes, SOP wise.
We truly adore our Black Copper Marans, but the intentions here are two fold. We would like to grow our breeding flock, numbers wise. We would also like to add more heavy blooms. We have loottsss of growouts currently, so we are well on our way to accomplishing these.
Annndddd lastly, Avery's precious Silkies and Satins. There are multiple layers of goals here! We intend to move to multiple breeding pens AND move to all mottled cockerels. Currently, we are using two splits (which means they are visibly black but carry the mottled gene). We will end up with so many more mottled chicks by swapping our breeding cockerels up. In addition, we hope to be able to create a sexlinked pen, which will allow us to create sexable chicks at hatch! Once AALLLLL that is accomplished, we will work toward weeding out our less than correct birds. Fortunately, we started with reasonably nice birds, so this shouldn't be too hard!
Staayyy tuned!!
