In our first year of using grazing collars we used them in our traditional method of moving cows every 5 days, but only allowed them 1/5 of the pasture on any given day. This season we are stepping it up a notch (I call it going full Noble) by determining available forage. Using both a grazing stick and magical AI on a smartphone we are calculating what cows need and what is available. Turns out we can go a lot more than five days and still leave 1/2 to 2/3 of growth. Our concern is that if we don't keep moving rapidly the grass will get mature and less desirable before we get to it. So learning as we go.

Today starts 2026 Spring AI with 157 heifers sync'd and ready to roll. AI notebook was full, so I found the same notebook on eBay; tough covers, heavy spirals. It held up really well. Yes, the records go in the computer, but too important not to have a hard copy. Here's to the next 17 years!

A few weeks ago Adam Lukert left an office chair in our working barn. I was a little leery of this and sure enough a couple folding chairs showed up and now the working barn has become a loafing shed. Wouldn't be surprised if a 30 of Busch Light showed up next.

Joe just rescued this calf from a cliff alongside a creek. Cow was bawling, Barb flew the drone in IR mode and found it on the 3rd flight, hovering above until Joe got to the right spot. Then somehow he got down the cliff and to the calf, and got back topside! Sometimes, it works out!
