Walked our sheep pasture yesterday & it’s rather depressing. It is not over grazed just way more of it is dead and crunchy than it usually is at this time of the year. Usually it’s not like this until I think late December.

These are the years that had my dear friend Jerry stressed out. He was a cattle rancher but it’s all the same worries for any operation with animals that graze.

Back then I didn’t get it but I get it now. 🥺

I remember sitting at the table him deep into his books with that worried look on his face or walking the pasture and how many times he said I don’t know how many more droughts I have in me. His grit, stubbornness, and faith in God would push him through and kept him going.

The decision to gamble for it to pay off or just get paid back (meaning all the hard work & sacrifices with no pay), or worse going in debt to hope that you get paid enough to hold the operation together and pay the bank and maybe get paid yourself if the weather allows and the prices of your stock are high enough, if your animals stay healthy and produce babies and if those babies make it and grow up. Or do you sell a bunch off or sell out? There are a lot of IFs to count on.

It’s always running through their minds. How far do you take it? How much do you gamble? I absolutely hate this uncertainty especially for the bigger operations. The ones that put so much into it building up there herd/ flock just to have to sell out or reduce numbers.

I’m praying for the ranchers/ farmers/ homesteads. And I’m praying for cooler temperatures and rain. 🙏🏼💗

We’ve decided to hold on, brace, & prepare. Meaning we’re spending a lot more on hay than we usually do.

Oh Hazel. 💜🥰🐑
This girl is out of our very first ewe Ethel and Max. She will be 2 when she has her first baby/ babies next spring. She is a big b***d and maybe a bit fat at the moment due to being such an easy keeper. She is all the best qualities of both her parents and I can’t wait to see what she has with Atlas. I’d love a chocolate ewe lamb marked just like Hazel.

Here are 2 picture of Hazel now and the others are here as a baby. Eeekkk she was so cute and squishy and now she’s beautiful and squishy lol.

Living there best life in the shade next to the pond.
2 dogs, 2 pigs, and a ram. Ducks as well but they aren’t in the picture.

This is our first full year having that pasture fenced and it still hits me all the time how neat it is to have it and how grateful I am that my animals can get in or around the pond in the summer to cool down. I love being able to look out the window or sit on the porch and see them.

Always looking for the beauty that’s all around trying to find my footing & safe place in a world filled with so much loss, pain, and suffering. My mom raised me to find the magic in all the little things. To marvel in the beauty right in front of you or to purposefully search for all the beautiful things like the beautiful sunsets that God paints for us. It’s been over a year since my mom was killed and I’m still learning how to live without her here on earth. I feel things differently, most days the deep ache in my heart still chokes me up and dims the beautiful world in front of my eyes but just look at the beauty in front of me right here.

This is one lucky bee 🐝. Watch at the end when it chose a very dangerous path in front of a chicken. 😂

These 2 yell at me like bottle babies every time they see me and come running. Archie is doing very well and is a week post castration. This cool weather today has been so nice and such a blessing for all my babies.

Just some random pictures from the 6 weeks and introductions or reintroductions………

🌺The flower is my 4ish year old hardy hibiscus that is giant and has flowers bigger than my hand. It’s such an easy bush that is very hardy and requires very little care.

💙🐶The dog (there are 2 pictures of him) is Finnley my heart dog. He’s my sidekick and goes with me anywhere he can as long as the weather allows. He is 8 years old. He likes most people but when he doesn’t like you he’ll let ya know. It took me what seemed like forever to find another heart dog after Jake my heart dog before Finn passed. I truly believe Jake sent me Finn. Finnley sure does love living on the farm and it’s crazy to me that he’s lived here most his life now. He was just a puppy and in Dec he’ll be 9. How did that happen so fast? This dog has been with me through so much death and so much loss of my physical ability’s I feel so bad for him but he doesn’t know any better and just wants to be with me whatever I am doing.

💖😻The kitty is my heart kitty Nova. Halloween this year will mark 3 years since we heard a sound on the front porch and opened the door to see her sitting on the table next to the door. I’ve said since that day that God hand delivered her and knew just what I didn’t know I needed. As my health has declined she has been there to cuddle, to be my constant companion, to love me and make me feel loved when I hated myself and my situation. She then has been there to help me navigate losing my momma. When she hears me crying even if I just have tears she knows the sniffles that go along with tears and she will run to me and crawl onto my chest and tuck her head under my chin or nuzzle into my neck. She normally isn’t a hug me cat but when I’m sad she allows all the hugs. This cat is absolutely precious and so special. She is 100% my cat and lives to care for me. She had a health scare recently and I’m thanking God that so far it looks like she will be ok but it’s something that we just have to wait and see and keep an eye on. No pun intended since it’s literally her eye that has an issue. It’s not painful and honestly most people wouldn’t even know it could be an issue. I’ll have to make a separate post on it and show a picture and explain more.

💜🐶The other dog pictured is my mommas dog Bella. She is 14 this month. She’s so sweet and is really thriving. She doesn’t have the best balance anymore and that doesn’t go well with her mentality about herself as she thinks she is young and spry and able to do whatever lol. We have to slow her down to keep her from hurting herself. When my mom died Bella had a newly torn ACL so we’ve been working hard to heal that and finally got her off pain meds a few months ago. She is walking and running well but it’s the turns and stops that she hasn’t mastered yet lol. She also can’t hold her p*e long anymore so leaving the farm since her joining our family requires my brother in law to come let her out to go potty. We appreciate him so much and his willingness allows us to still get some life outside the farm here and there. Anyways she is doing really well and we love having her.
