Ok friends!
The time has come to announce the winner of the 5lb jar of honey!
The total number of pounds we extracted Saturday was 448lbs.
Heather Fancher guessed 450lbs.
Remember, I only pulled 18 supers for demonstrations on Saturday. Those supers plus the other 170 are all on hives, and they're over 75% full.
There should be plenty of our honey to go around!

You folks certainly came out of the woodwork for this one!
147 guesses for a 5lb jar of honey!
If you haven't made your guess on how many pounds of honey we extracted during Saturdays Family Farm Day event, please do so on the previous post, and we'll announce the winner tonight!
FYI, nobody has guessed the exact number. The closest is 2lbs away!

Mid-day in one of our best Knotweed yards!
Knotweed (wild bamboo) is one of the last big nectar sources of the season for the bees and other pollinators, besides goldenrod. It produces a very dark, almost black honey, with a robust yet sweet flavor. It's certainly not the prettiest honey to look at in a jar, but many folks will put the pretty stuff back once they've tasted Knotweed Honey!
We use this honey when we make our "Hot Honey", as well as our Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice creamed honeys, because the flavors partner very well.
You can tell the girls are starting to fill boxes with it, as the nectar is blood red!

Good Sunday evenin friends!
It's been a pretty busy week, and even a busier weekend!
First off, we want to thank everyone that visited yesterday for Family Farm Day and today at Schoharie County Farmers Market!
I pulled 18 supers (honey boxes) for extraction demonstrations yesterday. I'm letting tanks drain overnight to get every last drop of goodness!
Because I love every one of ya, I'm gonna give away a 5lb jar of honey to the friend that can guess the closest to how many pounds (1lb increments only) of honey we harvested during yesterday's event!
I'll weigh it all tomorrow, and announce the winner Wednesday evening!
In the event of a tie, the first guess will be the winner!
