With all the storms in the area, we lost power last night right before supper. Solution… use the propane griddle. Still without power this morning and can’t fix coffee (worst day ever)! Solution… bust out the camping gear.

We had a great time this weekend learning how to keep bees. This is something we’re going to be adding to the farm. Fresh honey? Yes, please! Thank you so much Sweet Bee Farm and Apiary for teaching this class. We learned so much!

This Saturday we are going to pick up another cow. We had our Jersey AI’d and didn’t have another cow with her so we had to do it based on timing. With getting a heifer, we can at least check for heat and see if the AI took. Cross your fingers for us that it did. We’re excited to be getting our new girl! She’s a black angus that isn’t confirmed pregnant but has been in with a bull for a bit. Cross your fingers for that too that she is pregnant. A lot going on and we’re excited for it!

Y’all!! We’ve had some crazy ups and downs these first few months! Little bit turned one, we’re getting AI done on our cow tomorrow. The oldest got her first truck today. Just so much going on! I know I keep saying it but I will try to post more regularly.

Sourdough update: I kept this puppy alive for 5 days! I realize how ridiculous that sounds but if you know me, you would know how much of an accomplishment that is. 😂 Anywho… I hate to waste so for the first several days, I just fed it instead of discarding any. Today, I decided to use the discard to make pancakes. The recipe said to use 1 cup of sourdough discard along with the other ingredients and it should make 8 pancakes. I have a family of 5 and we are pretty healthy eaters so I doubled the recipe. I realized that I really need to jump up my sourdough game. I had just under 2 cups total (not just discard). I’m gonna need a lot more than what I was doing.

Okay. It’s been awhile since we last posted. It has been a whirlwind of a year but we are going to try our best to post more often (much more often). It may not be the most entertaining or exciting content but it will be here nonetheless.

That being said… A new attempt at sourdough begins today! Multiple attempts have been made in the past and failed… due to not feeding it properly. Of course the internet goes from super simple sourdough to so complex you need a science degree just to get through it! There is so much on our farm made from scratch that there is a ridiculous amount of determination to learn this skill. I probably won’t “master” it but I would like to make a loaf of bread or two. Lol. Wish me luck and if you have any tips or tricks that would help, feel free to share!
