Local friends… if you’re new to growing dahlias, this is a good time to deadhead and cut back any floppy stems to keep the plants from toppling over when the rain hits. Those big abundant blooms are like heavy mop heads.

Finished weeding the dahlias and removing their lower leaves, an important late summer task to keep the mildew away. Tomato plants have recovered nicely from the deer and are loaded with green tomatoes. Beans are a never ending battle. I just picked them 2 days ago. The vegetable garden is a jungle - a problem for another day. The hot tub is calling.

I love freshly weeded beds! 1 down, only 7 more to go.

This is your reminder to put on sun screen. Planted 3 of 8 dahlia beds today and it was only 71 degrees. Winds were blowing and I didn’t realize I was crispy until it was too late. Kinda ouchy in the hot tub tonight.
