Rockin’ Rider's expenses are supplemented by a "work benefit" program to offset the cost of Equine Activities for kids in the community. We never intended to create a therapeutic riding center. We noticed children benefiting from their time at the farm. They started building self-esteem and finding their passion. Our hearts broke when unfair life circumstances caused almost ended some of their time at the farm. We saw that these kids are flying under the radar. They really need this outlet but, because they may not have a learning disability or physical disability, they are excluded from federal funding and typical charitable therapeutic equine programs.
Studies show that technology and our stationary lifestyle is not healthy. We need to get our kids outside, off the phones, focused on something other than their adult problems, and help them build self-esteem. The kind of self-worth that comes from within not the external stimulation from the number of likes or followers on social media. These kids are at risk of falling into generational traps or becoming a statistic. A recent CDC study found that teen su***de jumped 56% from 2007 to 2017.
We believe they deserve a chance too. We expose our riders to all disciplines, and we have experts in all equine disciplines work with our riders to help them find their favorite way to ride!
Currently, we have 15 -20 Riders at any given time. Horses are expensive. We allow kids to supplement board and lessons, but unfortunately, that does not pay the expenses. We have been lucky enough to make it on private donations and the donations of good horses. Some of our greatest lesson horses have needs of their own because they are older and require a bit more care or special horseshoes.
The average cost per child with a dedicated competitive horse is around $750.00 a month. We have kids waiting to join the program, and few benefactors are stepping up. It kills us to have to turn kids away or have them wait for a spot.
We believe these kids should not suffer because of our op**te crisis because he happens to live with a grandparent who is on a tight budget, who happens to live with a single parent working two jobs to buy food.
