Haliwa-Saponi Indian Tribe Announces 2026 Election Results
HOLLISTER, N.C. — The Haliwa-Saponi Indian Tribe successfully conducted its 2026 Tribal Election on June 13, 2026, at the Chief W.R. Richardson Tribal Government Complex. A total of 530 ballots were cast, reflecting strong participation from Haliwa-Saponi tribal citizens. Of those, three ballots were defaced and one voter was determined to be unenrolled, rendering four ballots ineligible for the election.
Vice Chief
•Dr. Marvin Richardson, running unopposed, received 450 votes, representing 84.91% of total ballots cast.✅️ Re-elected
Tribal Council (3 Seats Available)
The following candidates received votes for Tribal Council:
•Sunshine Richardson — 340 votes (64.15%) ✅ Elected
•Charles Richardson Jr. (incumbent) — 295 votes (55.66%) ✅ Re-elected
•Howard Earl Richardson — 285 votes (53.77%) ✅ Elected
•Angela Richardson (incumbent) — 241 votes (45.47%)
•Valerie West — 201 votes (37.92%)
•Shatka Richardson — 130 votes (24.53%)
The top three vote recipients — Sunshine Richardson, Charles Richardson Jr., and Howard Earl Richardson — will be seated as members of the Tribal Council.
The newly elected and re-elected officials will be seated on June 22 at 6:30 p.m. during the Tribe’s regular monthly Tribal Council meeting.
Incumbent Charles Richardson Jr. secured re-election, while incumbent Angela Richardson did not retain a seat. Percentages are based on total ballots cast (530). Voters were permitted to select up to three candidates for Tribal Council.
