How Do I Reduce Lead Contamination Risk in my Tap Water at Home?

Lead is a toxic metal that can cause a variety of health problems, including developmental delays, learning disabilities, and neurological damage. Children are especially vulnerable to the effects of lead exposure.

Lead can contaminate tap water in a number of ways, including:

* Lead pipes. Lead pipes were used in plumbing systems for many years, and they can still be found in some older homes and municipalities.

* Lead solder. Lead solder was used to join pipes together, and it can also leach into the water.

* Lead-based paint. Lead-based paint was banned in the United States in 1978, but it is still present in many older homes. If lead-based paint is disturbed, it can release lead dust into the air and water.

If you are concerned about lead in your tap water, there are a number of things you can do to reduce your exposure, including:

* Install a point-of-use (POU) filter. POU filters are installed directly on the faucet or under the sink, and they remove lead and other contaminants from the water as it flows through the filter. There are a variety of POU filters available, so it is important to choose one that is certified by an independent organization, such as the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), to remove lead. Reverse Osmosis filters are the most effective and foolproof way to mitigate lead.

* Install a whole-house filter. Whole-house filters are installed at the main water line, and they remove lead and other contaminants from all of the water that enters your home. Whole-house filters can be more expensive than POU filters, but they can also be a more effective way to reduce lead contamination in your tap water when coupled with a reverse osmosis for POU system for drinking and cooking.

* Have your water tested. If you are concerned about lead in your tap water, you can have it tested by a certified laboratory. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a website where you can find a list of certified laboratories in your area.

* Let the water run. When you first turn on the tap in the morning or after it has been sitting for a while, let the water run for a few minutes before using it for drinking or cooking. This will help to flush out any lead that may have accumulated in the pipes.

* Use cold water. Hot water is more likely to contain lead than cold water, so it is best to use cold water for drinking, cooking, and bathing.

* Avoid using lead-based paints. If you have lead-based paint in your home, it is important to have it removed or sealed by a qualified professional.
By taking these steps, you can help to reduce your exposure to lead in tap water and protect your health.

Benefits of Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis is a water purification process that uses a semipermeable membrane to remove dissolved and suspended solids, ions, and other unwanted substances from water. Reverse osmosis is one of the most effective ways to remove lead from water, and it can also remove other contaminants, such as chlorine, fluoride, and bacteria.

Benefits of NSF 53 and Carbon Filter Systems:
NSF 53 is a certification standard for water filters that are designed to remove lead and other contaminants. NSF 53 filters are tested and certified by an independent organization to ensure that they meet the standard.
If you are concerned about lead in your tap water, you may want to consider installing a reverse osmosis filter or an NSF 53 filter. These filters can help to reduce your exposure to lead and other contaminants, and they can provide you with peace of mind knowing that your water is safe to drink.

Protect Your Family from Pharmaceutical Contaminants in Tap Water with our Reverse Osmosis and Home Filtration Systems

At Chicago Water Pros, we are committed to providing safe and clean drinking water to our customers. Over the years, we have seen a rise in concerns about the presence of pharmaceutical contaminants, including opioids, in our tap water. The op**te crisis and increased prescription medication usage have led to these substances finding their way into our water sources. A 2008 study by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) found that 80% of sampled streams contained traces of pharmaceuticals, hormones, and other organic wastewater-related contaminants [1]. While the concentrations of pharmaceuticals in tap water are typically low, the potential long-term health effects of chronic exposure are not well understood. Reverse osmosis systems and home filtration systems have been proven to greatly help protect your family from these contaminants.

The Challenge of Pharmaceutical Contaminants:

Pharmaceuticals, including op**tes, can end up in wastewater when they are not fully metabolized by the human body. Wastewater treatment plants are not specifically designed to remove all pharmaceuticals, so some of these substances can find their way back into rivers, lakes, and groundwater sources. This poses challenges for water treatment plants and raises concerns about the long-term effects of exposure to these contaminants in our drinking water. According to a study published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, conventional wastewater treatment processes only remove about 50% of pharmaceuticals and other micropollutants [2].
Reverse Osmosis Systems: A Solution for Cleaner Water
Our Reverse osmosis (RO) systems are an excellent way to address the presence of pharmaceutical contaminants in tap water. These systems work by forcing water through a semipermeable membrane, which filters out contaminants, including pharmaceuticals, on a molecular level. RO systems are highly effective at removing a wide range of contaminants, providing you and your family with safer and cleaner drinking water. A study conducted by the Water Quality Association (WQA) found that reverse osmosis systems can remove up to 99% of pharmaceuticals and other contaminants from tap water [3].

Home Filtration Systems: An Additional Line of Defense

In addition to reverse osmosis systems, our home filtration systems can help further protect your family from pharmaceutical contaminants in tap water. Our systems typically use a combination of sediment filters, activated carbon filters, and other specialized filters (depending on source water) to remove contaminants from your water supply. Home filtration systems can be customized to target specific contaminants, ensuring that your family has access to clean and safe drinking water. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), activated carbon filters are effective at reducing many common waterborne contaminants, including pharmaceuticals [4].

The growing concern about pharmaceutical contaminants in our tap water highlights the importance of having a reliable water treatment solution in place. By investing in a reverse osmosis system or a home filtration system from Chicago Water Pros, you can protect your family from potential long-term health effects and enjoy peace of mind knowing that your drinking water is free from harmful contaminants. At Chicago Water Pros, we offer state-of-the-art catalytic carbon home water filtration systems that guarantee cleaner, better-tasting water for you and your family. Our specialized systems effectively remove unwanted contaminants like chlorine, chloramines, hydrogen sulfide, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), transforming your tap water into a refreshing and healthier experience.

What is catalytic carbon filtration and how do our filtration systems work in the home?

First we start with a pre filtration sediment filter. Our systems come equipped with a pre-filter that catches larger particles like sediment and sand, ensuring that your main filter stays unclogged and water flows effortlessly. This feature extends the life of your filtration system and helps maintain consistent water pressure.

After the pre-filter, your water flows through our advanced filter filled with high quality catalytic carbon - a superior form of activated carbon that's been treated to enhance its ability to promote chemical reactions and remove contaminants more effectively. This process is known as adsorption: As the water moves through the filter, the activated carbon grabs onto and traps impurities, thanks to its large surface area and microscopic pores. This process ensures that a wide range of contaminants are effectively captured, leaving your water clean and fresh.
Additionally, the corresponding catalytic reactions work to trap impurities and breaks
down specific chemicals, like chloramines, which can cause unpleasant tastes and odors. This feature enhances the water's overall quality, making it more enjoyable for drinking and cooking.

For additional post-filtration our systems can be customized to include items such as reverse osmosis or UV disinfection, to provide an extra layer of protection and ensure that your water is as clean and pure as possible.

Once installed the treated water flows out of our system and into your home's pipes, providing you with consistently clean, delicious water for all your household needs.

Our catalytic carbon filters are designed for easy maintenance, with automatic regeneration which ensures that your system remains effective and efficient over time.

At Chicago Water Pros, we're committed to helping you enjoy the cleanest, freshest water possible. Our catalytic carbon home water filtration systems not only offer superior contaminant removal but also provide a range of features and benefits designed to enhance your home's water quality.
