Hidden Treasure OP Phoenix ended our spring kidding season with a single buck kid sired by Agape's Prize Weir's My Diamond.

We have 2 does that will kid the beginning of summer (🤦🥴😫 - I hate summer kids) so we aren't quite done for the year but we've got a couple month break.

Busy weekend on the farm. Got the milkers udders shaved (finally, normally a prekidding chore 🙃) and feet trimmed. Disbudded over half the babies. And sent two kids to their new home. Now onto the craziness that is the work week again 🤣.

Pictured is my girl Scarlett's udder. Love seeing her come up on the stand at milking time.

Introducing our new herd sire we picked up last weekend! Moon Station - I still need to decide on a name 🙃 lol. This guy is out of a doe that has a ton of strengths that we hope he brings to some of our girls. His dam is CH (pending) 40 West Farm Tan G Rine - look at that udder! And his sire is Moon Station Orion (CH Woodbridge Farm Sally x Agape's Prize Reverend CQuinn *B). Can't wait to see this guy mature and see his daughters!

Happy and sad day on the farm. Cindy kid this afternoon with triplets. Unfortunately, one was stuck trying to come out sideways. Matt got her to me as quickly as he could but unfortunately the little one had passed away already. Thankfully her two others came out quickly and easily behind that one. So Cindy has two beautiful babies, one doe and one buck. This doe is retained and the buck is spoken for already. Cindy had several folks hoping for a doe kid from her, but unfortunately we aren't going to be able to fill those requests this year. Thankfully, Cindy is doing well and doesn't seem too painful after her eventful delivery.

Kidding season has been in full swing the last two weeks. We have 2 more does to kid in March. Then potentially 2 early summer so it is winding down. So far we have had 15 kids (5 bucks and 10 does). All we have left available at this point is this little doe out of Cedar View Santina and Agape's Prize Weir's My Diamond. If you are interested in her please message me.

Stormy kid this morning with a massive single buck kid. This is why I hate single kids! Matt did a good job getting him out as I had already left for work as I didn't think she was that close to kidding. She was definitely close to being loaded up and heading to the clinic for a csection. Thankfully mama and baby are doing great. This baby is sired by Agape's Prize Weir's My Diamond.

I'm super behind on kidding announcements but we have had a busy week with 3 does kidding this week so far (3 more should be within the next week).

Hidden Treasure OD Medusa kid on Monday with triplets, 2 does and a buck that was unfortunately DOA. These kids are sired by Agape's Prize Weir's My Diamond. Medusa is a FF that won her junior grand champion leg last year.

Hidden Treasure Scarlett O'Hara kid on Tuesday with quints, 4 does and a buck kid who was also DOA unfortunately. These kids are sired by Agape's Prize Weir's My Diamond. I am very excited about these 4 little girls as Scarlett is a favorite of mine and she has always been kind of stingy on doe kids.

And lastly, Cedar View Santina also had quints, 4 bucks and a doe (not sure what's up with this pattern this year but one buck was also unfortunately DOA). These kids are sired by Hidden Treasure Sun Tzu.

So things are super crazy around here and we should have more to come over the next week 🥴

In the middle of us getting through the last week before opening our clinic, our kidding season got kicked off. Hidden Treasure St. Kateri (aka Kat) kid on 2/2/22 with triplets (2 does and a buck). Unfortunately the buck kid was born weak and we lost him, but her two doe kids are doing great. They hung out with their mom longer than we usually let them but opening a clinic and a milking and bottle feeding schedule wasn't going to work. I separated them this morning and they have thankfully (and surprisingly) taken right to the bottle. Here they are, aren't they cute?! And I'm loving Kats FF udder 😍

Here in Alabama we are experiencing a 60 degree temperature drop today/tonight. This sucks for us but it can be hard on our farm animals. Not only is the temperature dropping here but it's raining leading to snow which adds an extra difficulty to this because it's one thing to be cold, it's another to be cold and wet. So this afternoon was spent giving the goats extra hay and feed, making sure water buckets were full, giving the horses a mash dinner (feed watered down - horses tend to not want to drink when it's cold), extra hay for the horses, bringing the horses (as many as we have stalls for anyways) into the barn, waterproof turnout blankets on the horse and donkey still in the pasture, etc. Hopefully everyone will handle the crazy weather without incident. Main concerns are colic in the horses, so praying we don't have to deal with any of that tomorrow. Hope that all of you fare this crazy cold snap and maybe we can at least be rewarded with a pretty blanket of snow tomorrow morning.

Picture of the inside and outside view of the girls chowing down on their dinner tonight.

Sharing some of our farm management practices. This time of year is our "easy season", we do not milk or kid out any does from November through February or March depending on when the first doe kids. As January approaches, I start preparing the girls for kidding and lactation. I transition them to a grain with a coccidiastat in it to decrease coccidia egg shedding I'm their stool. The thought behind this is it exposes the kids and the kidding stalls to less coccidia contamination so hopefully the babies have less issues with coccidiosis. I also start to add a small amount of alfalfa back into the girls diet. I take them off alfalfa late in their lactation when it's getting close to time to dry them off and leave them off during the fall months. Mainly this is because my girls like to get fat so when there isn't so much demand on them I don't want them to have the extra calories. I start adding a small amount at this stage of pregnancy to give them some additional nutrients for the later parts of pregnancy and to also add in some trace minerals I found my grass hay was deficient in. A big one there for us is selenium. Our first kidding season here in Warrior we had major selenium deficiency issues in our kids. We determined the thing that had changed with our move was our hay source. After some research and testing, we determined that adding in the alfalfa during pregnancy (before we added alfalfa to their diet at the time of kidding) helped to add more selenium into their diet so that plus some supplementation with BOSE injection seemed to solve the problem. So the girls got to enjoy an alfalfa treat today as I start the process of adding a portion of that to their daily feed ration.

Just a pasture picture but we have a familiar face back on the farm. Hidden Treasure White Russian was sold as a 2 year old right after we moved to Warrior because we needed to decrease herd size at that time. I have always regretted selling her but knew she was being well taken care of. We had the opportunity to bring her back home! Russia is out of one of our foundation does, Jnels GP Vienna, who is about to turn 12 years old. Her sire is Farm Oldesouth Espresso Blanc *B who has produced several gorgeous daughters for myself and his new farm, Lucy Creek. We are looking forward to breeding Russia to Agape's Prize Weir's My Diamond this year and getting her into the show ring this spring.

We have officially finished out the 2021 show year (I think so anyways, but maybe... No I need to be done 🤣). We ended it with a bang with Hidden Treasure WT Pandora winning Grand Champion Senior doe! Pandora is always the bridesmaid so it was so good to get to see her be the bride finally. Then to make things more exciting, Hidden Treasure Scarlett O'Hara won Reserve Grand Champion Senior doe! She did not want to participate in her photo shoot so please ignore her RBF lol 🤣

We had a great time at the DeKalb county fair last night! The highlight of the night was Hidden Treasure WT Pandora winning Reserve Grand Champion senior doe under judge Karen Smith! We love this little bulldog of a doe. Thanks to Ashley Haskew for coming along with me and co-piloting my first solo trailer driving excursion as Matt and Ellie couldn't come to this show.

Honestly the Lincoln County Fair today was pretty miserable with it pouring rain all day and everywhere outside the barn being flooded (yay wet socks), buuutttt we ended it with a bang with Hidden Treasure Cherokee Storm winning junior grand champion under judge Karen Smith. Ellie also participated in her first showmanship class 😍 so despite the weather it was a good day with our goat friends, also shout-out to Erika for distracting our exhausted toodler who had hit a wall with missing nap right when it was time for our girls to show.

Next up, meet Hidden Treasure OD Phoenix!

This girl is a brat lol 🤣 but she had a rough start so that maybe why, she had to be tough to make it this far. Her dam, Jnels BB Eye Candy, like to kid by herself and she kid early one morning. I came out to check her shortly after she had given birth. I found 3 bouncing babies, I checked them out and several minutes later noticed another baby buried in shavings still mostly in her amniotic sac. I thought we had lost one but when I picked her up she made a small size. Matt and I jumped into action stimulating her, giving her emergency drugs, and trying to get her temp up. She went from lifeless, with a heart rate of 20 bpm, and freezing cold to nursing from a bottle and standing on her own in less than 2 hours. So that is how this spitfire got her name, she rose from the ashes that day.

Pictured is her a bratty unwilling picture day participant, her being warmed up in a baby bath tub, being warmed more with a hair dryer once she started to come around, and meeting Ellie an hour later.
