These young ladies are getting it done. I don’t want to jinx us but these ladies are making us look goooood! 2 more of our young ladies calved yesterday. That’s 4 new mammas with 5 calves. 🤞for more easy calving.

Second one on the ground.
If you remember my previous post
“The Calm Before the Storm”
This is the point where we start feeling the “smart, rewarding” side. These first 2 young ladies are killing it. Praying the others are paying attention.

🐮 TWICE THE BLESSING! 🐮

Our first heifer has calved—and she surprised us with TWINS!

The chance of a first-time heifer having twins is less than half of one percent, making this an incredibly rare and special moment at Valley Home Farm.

Mama and both babies are doing great. What an exciting way to start the calving season!

The next generation has officially arrived—times two!

One In a Million
Well that might be a “slight” exaggeration. The odds a heifer will have twins is less than one percent, the odds both make it is even less and the odds she will accept both very slim. But here is 183 being a rockstar. First to calve and making us proud.

The calm before the storm…

As a cattleman, retaining heifers from your own herd is one of the most rewarding, satisfying, stressful, maddening, smartest—and sometimes dumbest—things we do.

These young ladies are due any day now, and we’ll keep you updated along the way.

The next generation is on the way! 🐄

Giving these young ladies a little treat this morning to keep them happy and gentle! They have their first calves in their bellies and are due to calve anytime now.

Heifer retention has been in the headlines lately, and our government is trying to address it with foreign beef. But the government has never been able to fix what American farmers and ranchers should control.

Support the people raising your food. Buy American beef. 🇺🇸🥩

Some folks think being a farmer is buying a cowboy hat off Amazon, throwing on a pair of skinny jeans, taking a few sunset pictures, and calling it a lifestyle.

Meanwhile... we're still in the field after dark.

The lights are on, the tractor is running, and tomorrow's work depends on what gets finished tonight.

Farming isn't an aesthetic. It's long days, late nights, dirty boots, grease under your fingernails, and doing whatever the weather demands.

We'll leave the photo shoots to somebody else.

We've got hay to put up. 🌾🚜

The guesses are officially in! 🌾🚜

Over the next day or so, we'll be going through all of the comments to make sure we find the first correct guess. Once we've verified everything, we'll announce our winner! 🎉

Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun. We love seeing all the guesses and getting everyone involved. Stay tuned... the winner will be announced soon! 🌾💪
