Real feel of 100, high humidity, and a love of horses means we got it done! We cared for 16 horses including 2 foals and a senior gelding who needed some extra TLC, we administered medication, fed everyone, mucked stalls, stuffed hay nets, gave fresh water, turned some horses in, turned the others out, swept the barn and called it a night.

We started our first visit of the day with Clayton. We did a decent walk with him before he gave the sign that it was getting too hot for him. We let him relax in the shade, then loaded him into the air conditioned SUV and drove him home. He is completely fine but with how hot it is we are not risking heat exhaustion. Safety first, always 🫶

We were called this morning to help with our repeat clients horses and we are grateful we were able too.

Horse Fact:

Did you know that horses can’t throw up? A lot of time when they get an upset stomach they can colic.

There are a variety of different types of colic such as Gas, impaction, Torsion (twist), displacement etc. Early intervention is key in helping horses feel better. Often used is a drug called banamine best given IV but if not trained to do so can be given under the tongue. Quick intervention is critical and recognizing signs of colic is paramount in getting care started and getting a vet en route if needed.

With over 20 years in the equine world we know what to look for and know when something isn’t right. When you hire us you can rest assured the subtle warning signs will be noticed.
