Hello from the farm. I will not be at the Washburn Farmers’ Market today as a big storm is blowing through right around the beginning. I’m just not feeling up for fighting the elements and keeping the tent from blowing away. We do have all of the goodies available in our farm store and I’ll be back out there next week, pending any storms.

Come on by the farm and get your forever-long supply of organic eggs 😂 We have 30 dozen eggs in the store fridge and they just keep coming. Thankfully we got up the electric fencing around them yesterday so we feel a lot better with our coyote problems. I saw one steal a chicken on Tuesday and then saw it again in our backyard on Friday morning when getting up for the day. It’s also nice having them fenced in so the flowers I’m planting are also safe. Chickens love eating flowers.

Hello from the farm! We have so many eggs that we’ve decided to continue on having an egg sale - come on by the farm store to get yourself some organic eggs for $5/dozen and $4/dozen for the pullet eggs (smaller).

Farm life is still feeling pretty heavy lately. We have two sick pigs that we’ve isolated and are treating with help from the vet, so fingers crossed they can pull through. It’s hard to watch and see them suffering, but time will only tell how they fare. I’m grateful we have some warmer temperatures coming our way.

Egg sale this weekend! All eggs are $5/dozen or $4/dozen for the pullet eggs (they are smaller and fresh from our new hens that are just starting to lay).

Farm life has not been an easy life this past week. After our piglets arrived a week ago Friday, we lost one 36 hours after arrival to stress. Then what transpired became an avalanche with finding another sick piglet on Monday, isolating it, having the vet out, and still watching it perish by Friday. And then over this last weekend, another two piglets fell ill. We took the fourth piglet to the diagnostic lab for a necropsy, so we’ll find out soon whether it’s a virus as our vets thinks and what strain. Though Tyler and I have been farming for 10 years, life still throws curveballs and it’s hard watching any young life wither in front of our eyes. The remaining eight pigs are looking good and are settled in a new pen with lots of fresh hay. 🤞

Piggies are settling in and we’re are already failing at remembering daily chores as we forgot to turn off the hose last night before the cold temperatures came in. 😂 Thankfully it will get nice and warm today and should hopefully thaw everything out.

Our farm store is back open and super full of eggs. Thankfully we were only without power for around 18 hours and the farm didn’t have any major damage. It’s incredible how strong winds will affect certain areas and not others. It blew a ~15 lbs metal pole from the center of our hoop house on the south side up and over the hoop to the north side. Yet, it didn’t move an empty dog kennel that’s sitting 70’ away. Just nuts.

12 little piggies arrived on our farm yesterday just in time for us and half of Washburn to lose power. 🥴 So we will be closing the farm store today until the power is back on. Xcel is anticipating it should be back by 4 p.m. today, so fingers crossed that actually happens. Thank goodness for the amazing artesian well in Washburn - Tyler was able to go fill buckets of water for the pigs and himself. What a wacky time to arrive on the farm.

I repeat, the farm store will be closed today until the power is back on. Thank you!! When it is restored and we open the store back up, we have over 15 dozen eggs that need a new home 😁

Hello from the farm! After a lovely spring break trip to Texas, we’ve returned and jumped back into farm life with lots of focus on chickens and soap making. On Saturday we welcomed 40 new pullets (~3 month old laying hens) that will begin to lay eggs in about a month or so. Our current older hens are definitely feeling spring vibes and are aggressively laying - so we are super stocked up on eggs. There are over 20 dozen eggs in the farm store right now!

I’ve also jumped right back into soap making and today’s docket was two batches of Winter Pines. The soap boxes get to chill on our dining room floor for two days and then I’ll cut them on Wednesday. It definitely helps make the house smell better - especially when surrounded by a giant, hairy dog who loves romping a little too much in the spring mud and rain. Last week I also gave our soap shelving area an update and put up some peel and stick wallpaper. Tyler rolled his eyes, but I love not seeing the pink basement insulation and it brings a smile to my face.

If you live in the Duluth/Superior region, I will be driving through on Friday afternoon and can make deliveries if you’re interested in some eggs/soap/chicken/pork - send me a message if you’d like the full listing of options.

Thanks for joining along with us on our journey!

Happy spring equinox! We may not be having warmer temperatures yet, but in the hoop house the ladies can feel every bit of sunshine. Here they are enjoying a batch of spent grains from . They can sense spring is coming and egg production is definitely up. The farm store is restocked and loaded up with 20+ dozen eggs. Come on by!
