Our DMV community is home to the second highest median income in Washington DC, yet nearly 40% are experiencing economic crisis surrounding housing costs and resource and opportunity shortages due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Studies show that nearly %15 of the District faced food insecurity in 2017. This number has not gone down while population and economic strain are on the rise.
This crisis may result in hundreds of thousands more of our loved ones in the community facing food insecurity and acute famine for the duration of the pandemic and beyond.
With transportation and other socioeconomic barriers that lead to less healthy food choices, our youth are stigmatized into silence surrounding the growing hunger crisis in their homes and in our community.
Food delivery is more than a luxury, it is access to a complete and healthy meal when there is no way to get or pay for groceries, it is a healthy option when processed fast food, microwaveable and junk food are the only things within walking distance at poorly stocked and highly priced establishments, and it is the peace of mind in knowing that good authentic and nutritional home cooked food is always within reach.
