Beauvine Burger Concept & Pinot Noir
The wine: A 2019 Pinot Noir from ARABILIS in Willamette Valley. We’re fans of an Arabilis sparkling and almost forgot that their Pinot is great as well. It’s soft and silky, earthy and slightly floral. Light-bodied and easy to drink, I’m kind of kicking myself for only grabbing one bottle.
The food: The Lafayette Burger from Beauvine has brie, Cabernet onions, apricot mustard, and arugula was awesome with the wine. I thought (hoped) the brie would be more pronounced, but it gave a nice creaminess that, combined with the onions, felt like the burger version of something I’d pull from a cheese board to drink with a glass of Oregon Pinot. The duck fat fries were also delicious.

Shrimp tacos & Riesling
The wine: Ria’s Wines 2024 Grace Riesling, a dry, lightly floral, not so lightly citrusy and acidic sip from the Finger Lakes (Seneca, to be exact). Highly rated, if you care about those things, but a perfect wine for a summer dinner.
The food: Sha-rimp tacos from STUFT Restaurant ◇ Food Truck ◇ Haas Sauce. Blackened sheimp, cabbage, pico, goat cheese, and sol sauce. The veggie, cheese, sauce blend was awesome with the wine.

July sips | (Work) stress was high, wine and cocktails were better.
From an Umami Mami in my new neighborhood and fried chicken, champagne and Chicago fireworks to kick off Convention to an identified bubble on top of the Obama Presidential Center and various bubbles around the Willamette Valley, I am full (and tired. 😅). All of it was even better because of the people I drank from and with.

My and I are home, thanks to Southwest Airlines’s Sip & Ship. From certain wine regions (Cali, Oregon, Washington) you can check up to a case of wine for free. I think Alaska Airlines offers something similar.

Work hard, play hard: A story in two pictures

When I’m not digging in on wine, I’m locking in with my civil rights/advocacy colleagues. The rest of the year will be steeped in the work, but will always prioritize some play.

A quick stop into was the perfect post-rally side quest. The Boréal the perfect way to wind down.

In a world of trendy and basic wine bars, be a . Champagne tastings that change weekly, knowledgeable staff, and lineups from smaller producers you can’t find everywhere. 👌🏽

I need this on the East Coast. 😩 Almost missed my flight but no regrets in squeezing in a pre-flight tasting.

A glass of wine and a snack is about to become my new personality. 😅
A quick side quest through NYC’s Chinatown and Lower East Side wine bars while I was there for the Webby’s:
Loaded (salty!) chips at .nextdoor
Chorizo empanada at
Marinated olives at
Next time I’ll do better at picking a thoughtful pairing. Not one glass I picked went with the snack I had, but still had a great time.
