Who doesn't love Conterno?

After a very long shipping-induced delay, the fabulous Organic Piedmont wines from Daniele Conterno's Franco Conterno winery are back in stock. We've got all your favorites: Langhe Nebbiolo 2020, Barolo Bussia Riserva 2018, Barolo Pietrin 2021, and a new one for our book, the Barolo Riserva Sette 7 Anni.

Nonno Pietro started farming Nebbiolo in Bussia before phylloxera swept through Europe. Four generations later, Daniele Conterno, his great-grandson at Franco Conterno, still uses nothing but copper and sulphur on their vines. Cascina Sciulun, their farmhouse in Monforte d'Alba, dates to the mid-1800s. The 18 hectares surrounding it sit between 250 and 400 meters—south-facing slopes where Nebbiolo ripens slowly and completely.

Grazie mille!

Just in time for Thanksgiving, please welcome Jean-François Moniot's Domaine l'Entre Deux Mondes. Based in Villegouge, on Bordeaux' Right Bank, this is anything but a boring Bordeaux. Jean-François Moniot is a veterinarian who walked away from his practice to resurrect abandoned vineyards on a 12th-century fortified farm in the Fronsadais, treating his vines with the same plant-based protocols he used on animals: tisanes, essential oils, horn-prepared silica. When he acquired the property in 2005, village elders remembered that these clay-limestone plots once produced exceptional wine. Now his 3.37-hectare estate between Pomerol, Saint-Émilion, and Fronsac delivers Demeter-certified biodynamic Bordeaux that refuses to compromise.

Zero inputs in the vineyard: no fertilizers, no compost, just controlled grassing and herbal preparations from locally collected plants. Hedges surround the domain to protect biodiversity. Late mowing gives insects and small animals shelter. Hand-harvested with double sorting on vine and table. The team relocates spiders rather than killing them. For vinification, it's even simpler: nothing added, nothing removed. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. When filtration proves necessary, it's tangential on ceramic only. Third and fourth-use barrels. This is what terroir sounds like when you stop manipulating it.

Grab a corkscrew, invite some friends, and discover a Bordeaux that's not boring.
