This week, enjoy 10% OFF Chef Zainab's delicious Afghan Chicken Biryani (Aromatic Lemon Chicken and Basmati Rice Pilaf)!
Chef Zainab is giving biryani her own personal twist, creating something truly fun and delicious. She starts by marinating large cuts of chicken in rich yogurt and a medley of spices. She’ll then slow-cook the chicken, locking in all the spicy flavors. Chef Zainab then steams extra long grain basmati rice in a heavenly spice blend. To complete the dish, the chicken is placed atop the rice for a final flash steam and a fresh slice of lemon is squeezed over the top. The end result is a fantastic dish with tangy chicken, fluffy rice, and perfectly balanced spices.

As the seasons change, so does our menu! Ring in this Fall season with Chef Veronique’s Autumn Quinoa & Edamame Lettuce Wraps with Tangy Peanut Butter Drizzle!
These wraps are the perfect blend of refreshing seasonal flavors! Chef Veronique adds seasonal veggies to her perfectly cooked quinoa and edamame beans. The real standout of this dish is the Tangy Peanut Butter Drizzle, a combo of bold and dynamic flavors. The drizzle has a base of peanut butter, which adds smooth and savory notes to the tang from tamarind, orange juice, and rice vinegar. For a bit of a kick, Chef Veronique adds a touch of red pepper flakes and white pepper powder. Altogether, this dish is a party in your mouth! The quinoa and veggies are light and refreshing, while the drizzle adds savoriness and tanginess.
To best enjoy this dish, we recommend mixing the drizzle with the quinoa and veggies, scooping everything up with a lettuce wrap, and enjoying all these amazing textures and flavors in one bite!

🚨New Dish Alert🚨
As a part of our Fall Menu Refresh, we are so excited to introduce Chef Veronique’s incredible Ivorian Fried Chicken Jollof Rice!
This dish is packed full of flavors! With Chef Veronique's jollof rice, she starts by seasoning and cooking the rice in a single pot with blended aromatics. The key to the dish is adding the perfect amount of tomato puree for its color and tangy flavor. Once the rice is cooked, she adds her perfectly cooked fried chicken. You'll want to drizzle the tangy and spicy caramelized onion sauce on top of the chicken, as it's the toast of the dish! Chef Veronique pairs the jollof rice and fried chicken with her famous homemade slaw. The jollof rice is tangy, complementing the crispy savoriness of the fried chicken. Chef Veronique's slaw ties the dish together, adding a refreshing crunch to the rice and chicken.

Here’s a behind the scenes peek at how Chef Zainab makes the paneer for her delicious Afghan Paneer Salad!
Paneer is a type of soft-cheese with origins in the Indian subcontinent. To make paneer, Chef Zainab starts by bringing whole milk to a gentle boil. She then adds lemon juice, and stirs until the milk curdles. Once curdled, she strains it through cheesecloth. Chef Zainab then presses the excess liquid out of the paneer, leaving a perfectly-shaped block of cheese.
For the salad, Chef Zainab cuts the paneer into cubes, and adds it to a bed of fresh chopped romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, red onions, roasted seasoned chickpeas, and cucumbers. The salad is served with Chef Zainab's Pomegranate Vinaigrette, which features pomegranate and honey for sweetness, and dijon mustard and lemon for a zesty kick.

There's still time to snag this week's special: Chef Veronique's Ragout d'Igname (Ivorian-Style Hearty Yam Stew)!
Ragout d’Igname, French for “yam stew,” originates from Burkina Faso, but is popular in most West African countries. This stew traditionally uses beef, but Chef Veronique gives this classic dish a vegan twist. She starts by cooking garlic and onions to bring out their full flavor, and then simmers the aromatics in veggie broth. Chef Veronique then adds Ghanian yam, kabocha squash, red bell peppers, carrots, and jalapeño, and cooks them until the yams are tender and the sauce is nice and thick. This stew is hearty, comforting, and incredibly delicious. Curl up with a bowl of Ragout d'Igname on a chilly day and feel this stew soothe your soul.

Hi there, thanks so much for visiting and we hope you can enjoy the incredible foods of our chefs!
I just wanted to take a moment and share the story of how Foodhini started. I had just moved to Washington D.C. in the summer of 2014 to attend graduate school at Georgetown and within a few weeks, I found myself craving my mom's Hmong home cooking. Hmong cuisine, can be found to have many different influences such as Thai and Lao cuisine, but is quite unique. Growing up, my mother cooked up simple and tasty dishes, such as stews, stir frys and grilled meats, but she’s famous for her egg rolls, the perfect blend of glass noodles, vegetables, and ground pork, all lightly fried to perfection. Hmong restaurants don’t exist in DC and I found it nearly impossible to find authentic Thai & Lao cooking. I wondered why I couldn’t connect with a local auntie or grandma in the neighborhood and purchase some of their home cooking.
In that moment, I thought of my mom’s story, coming to this country as a refugee of the Secret War in Laos. Upon arrival to the U.S., the only jobs available to her were low paying due to her limited education and English language skills. Growing up, I saw my mom very little as she worked multiple odd jobs to help make ends meet, but she still made time to make our family amazing meals. At the time it seemed almost impossible to think she could make a living wage using her best skill, cooking her incredible Hmong food. That was a defining moment for Foodhini. I realized that if I could create a way for talented chefs like my mom to connect and sell their cultural cuisines to customers like me, we could potentially create new jobs and opportunities for communities of diaspora but also introduce authentic cultural dishes to customers that go beyond current restaurant menus.
More recently, we've been able to realize our initial vision of creating opportunities for chefs like my mom, and also introduce some amazing food to the city of DC. We're so excited to share our journey with you and I wanted to thank you for being an early supporter and joining us in our mission to enjoy food and empower lives.
