Pouring a resolute glass of standing on my soapbox on the .

Those who know MoWino well and those who are regular followers know that I believe you can travel the wide world of wine from the aisle of your local wine shop. Often before I jet off on a wine adventure, I spend my “pre-travel” cruising the aisles of my local wine shops or the grocery stores searching out grapes & vintages from the region that I will be traveling. This past week, I was in a national food warehouse of bulk items and of course inquisitively wandered in between the wine crates eye-spying the collection. With on the horizon, the search and seek operation found these two delightful samples to .

During a Bordeaux Team Zoom Mtg, I opened my Kirkland 2023 Pauillac. I must admit the first sip was not that “wow” sip we all yearn for; however it was just waking up! This $19.99 just needed time to announce herself. After a few minutes of swirling and talking, I took another sip and WOW there she was ready to go! Raise the curtain, Pauillac was ready to perform! The color was bodacious purple. The aroma cloud floating from the glass was like being in a bakery on an early morning. The Round 2 sip was full bodied, smooth elegance with a long finish. The fruit was mellow and fused magnificently with the terroir Old World essences. Confession the zoom ended, yet the Pauillac continued onward into the night with a magnificent encore!

All for the love of , we were on a 🍷mission, a training mission early in the week. Traveled to in our beloved Pink Plaza for pre-ceremonial dinner that we could Vive La France. We enjoyed perfect pairings and deliciousness of French cuisine and talked all things French with our a great waiter about his home country. The escargot was magnificant; the Duck à ľ Orange classically perfect, and the Veal Milanese was crispy topped with a balsamic salad. 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻. Blend of Merlot and CabSav, the medium bodied🇫🇷🍷 wine was surpisingly bright and jammy which was cloaked behind its earthy old world aroma. It was a good sip to savor with around the table on a unexpected relaxing indulgent evening!

With the running of 🏇🏼at Laurel today, it wasn’t a hard push to open a long-time family favorite from and winery in Maryland. BA’s Terra Dulce VIII is a dessert-styled , which was one of several bottles gingerly transported by the infamous “109 Movers” to .

Characteristically, TD8 is defined as a without the technical distinction. However, I have preferred to refer to as a sherry🍷 wine. Personally IMHO, TD8 is best enjoyed with a lovely cheese board along with savory fig jam. It is a great in a glass however I will admit to enhancing our holiday recipes through the years with Terra’s growing anthology of vintages. It has been the favorite “secret ingredient” 😎👩🏻‍🍳🍷 in MoWino;s fruit pies, cobblers and sauces. Today as we sipped before the horserace, we added TD8 to a lamb gravy as part of our lamb pot 🥧 pie stuffing, Delightful! 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

Pouring a wanderlust-ing glass of on this !

As many might know, years ago MoWino would naively and defiantly proclaim adversity to . There were lots of “Pinot” branding that I sipped begrudgingly at wine dinners promoted by my host(s). It was a long wine journey to finally proclaim yes indeed I like Pinot Noir, with an explanation mark.

The Pinot-Noir-Road-Less-Traveled began by chance at a small neighborhood wine bar in Albany, New York that had a stellar incredible wine list and a savory tasty menu. I had a business drinks mtg at the neighborhood hotspot; when ended I respectfully said goodbye lingering behind to “check my email” before I headed out. The real reason I stayed behind, the table next to us was being used by a wine rep showcasing his labels to the owner to new options for the menu. Throughout my mtg, I was ease-dropping, and drooling inside, to their meeting.

The wine rep was staying behind to really check his email when I interrupted. Interestingly, he was showcasing all wines, many of which were Pinot Noir. He graciously began pouring sips for me to explore with his many open bottles on his table. I remember well that one that shined and spoke to me was a Penner Ash Pinot. And as the winner of my palate, the wine rep gifted to me the two open bottles of Penner-Ash to enjoy!

Catapulting from one Capital to “the”Capitol…

Earlier this month, the USA hosted the King and Queen of England for a state dinner—and enthusiastically I researched which American wines were showcased. Happily proud of the selections, I was ecstatic to see PennerAsh was one of the three selected. Immediately, I headed out to secure the bottle! The wine reflects WillametteValley strength with smooth velvety eleganance. The medium bodied wine radiates balance btwn tannins and acidity. It’s delightful berrilious aroma of red and purple fruits set-up for the wave of luscious fruit and spice on the palate. The color of the grapes is robustly a deep purple, like night waiting for the moonlight to shine across the vineyard.

Enjoyed this as we kicked off celebration of Mom aka 😍

One of the great pairings and comfort pampering is to enjoy a relaxing evening with a bold red wine and pizza! The evening brought us to our local neighborhood pizza extroidare , the famed New York landmark that has catapulted to Boca Raton. Remembering Patsy’s NYC with my Father Leprechaun and Mom, it made total sense to kick-off Mom’s special Wknd at Patsy’s Boca!

We enjoyed 🍷from the fabulous Italiano Montepulciano D’Abruzzo Colline Teramane DOCG —the northern Abruzzo region of Italy 🇮🇹filled with the Montepulciano 🍇 grapes. Distinctively, the vino is robust, bold and velvety smooth— the perfect accompaniment for our food, spirit and relaxing evening to celebrate Mom!

The pizza 🍕 which we originally ordered as our appetizer before our entree — was so delicious that when the pasta arrived at the table we told them to package up for take home and we settled into our great pizza night. The bonus of the night — that dinner was already cooked for the next day!

Pouring an advantageous glass of on this .

Alert — Not all shops are alike! As a happy merry wine enthusiast, I travel the different wine shops never sticking to the one local yokel near MoWino Headquarters. Often, one shop might favor a particular wine region or display heavily certain price points favorable to the zip code or location. Admittedly, I like to explore wine shops traveling the aisles looking for those rare finds, new sips and yes, some old reliable friends.

This past wknd MoWino was out and about in a neighborhood not her own and wandered into a shop with a particular sip in mind to buy — and then saw an old friend from Uruguay Reserva 2023. It was a no-brainer stop and selection; we were taking advantage of this new wine shop selection!

Tannat is a lovely grape which I find many are not familiar. Many consider Malbec as its distant cousin however I would suggest rather a fusion of Cab Franc and Malbec is more accurate. There are often an Old-World French Tannat v. New-World Uruguay debates. With its distinctive characteristics, Garzón reflects dark full body boldness with black plums, blackberries, black cherry with its coastal minerality coming in with the tide. Often, I crave a well-aged cheese as an accompaniment such as a 15-year-old Gouda is my perfect pairing with Garzón Tannat. I would think the strength of a tender leg of lamb would be ideal as well.

When in a new neighborhood explore the essences of the community, travel the wine aisles looking for something new to SwirlSniffSip but don’t forget the longtime friends who you only get to visit from time to time!

As MoWinoBordeaux is on the horizon, thinking I should search and seek a French Tannat to sip!

Hola Mi Amigos! Several have asked evidently a burning question: What was the of choice to celebrate World Malbec Day? Admittingly, it was a difficult decision as there are so many fabulous Malbecs to choose. MoWino opted to Swirl-Sniff-Sip the night away 💃with the great expanding our love affair as Luigi was my first! 🥰. MoWino’s first trip to Mendoza w/ started our adventure at the lovely and beautifully enchanting Bodega. We toured; we swirled; we sniffed; and yes we sipped —and jovial laughed quite a bit -the lovely juices in the vineyard and ended the perfect day with wine luncheon in the garden. It was not a hard choice to reach for Luigi when I accidentally found it in a wine-shop not frequently visted thus it was destiny.

MoWino didn’t choose Malbec; Malbec chose MoWino :). IYKYK

The 2024 Insignia Malbec is a 100% pure Malbec. Showcasing intense red fruity aroma with unasumming plum and fig flavors on the palatte. It was velvety smooth, medium-boded with a long fabulous finish to savor. Cheers to my first 🇦🇷🍷😍 ¡Salud!

Happy ! On recent Saturday evening, friends, neighbors and church community members gathered in a very unassuming backyard for an infamous feast This community charitable BBQ is rumored to have a 3 to 5 year waiting list. Thnx to the perseverance of , — and others joined in fellowship for 3 courses of Brazilian deliciousness. We were told they would supply the wine glasses but it was a BYOB to enjoy. MoWino selected New Mexico’s sparkling 2016. The purpose of the occasion demanded Bubbles! The aroma was true to expectations of fresh baked brioche. The sip was smooth effervescence tropical sweetness. Regina’s feast was a savory and delicious buffet with 3 course. The soup selection was amazing. MoWino chose a sausage and corn soup which had a bit of kick that played fabulously well with the . The main course was HUGE buffet, authentically rustic Brazilian home cooking. With two plates in hand, MoWino savory sampling is too much to showcase just to say I was pleased to have the light yet impactful sips to accompany the delicacies. And the luscious 3rd course dessert buffet ws too much overload for MoWino. Next time, I will pace myself better! It was a lovely opportunity and a blessing to experience.
