Since 1746, the Averill family has farmed the same 250 acres located on a scenic hilltop in Washington Depot, CT. The current Averills of the 9th and 10th generations grow apples, pears, quinces as well as hay and Christmas trees.

CT residents take note. Land has always been the issue for farmers, but now it's more important to protect good producing land for FARMERS than ever before. So, do what you can. Look into CT Connecticut Farmland Trust or other local farmland specific protection agencies. Private Equity does not have farms in mind when investing in agricutural land, period, and solar and non farm development mean that land is lost for production forever.
