Oh, the simplicity of the 1950s. ❤️
One of my favorite things about thrifting, vintage shopping, and estate sales is finding treasures like this 1955 Better Homes & Gardens Barbecue Book.
The illustrations, chapter titles, and family scenes are a sweet reminder of a different time when a backyard barbecue was all about family, friends, and simple fun.
If you’re new to the Deep South Cattle page, vintage finds like this are one of my favorite things to collect. I thought y’all might enjoy a few pages from this little piece of history as much as I did. 🥩📖🔥

Y’all go check out the podcast with Jeff’s dad.

This week’s Fist Full of Dirt episode is a little different and it’s one that means a whole lot to me. A few weeks ago I got a message from a family down in Georgia about a man named Jeff Daniel who was going through one of the hardest seasons of his life after losing his wife of 60 years earlier this year. Jeff has been a passionate turkey hunter for decades. They thought maybe a short phone call from me might lift his spirits a little. Instead, I loaded up and drove to Georgia. What followed was one of the most meaningful weekends I’ve had in a long time. We shared supper, swapped stories and hunted together the next morning. But what I didn’t fully realize until later was just how much that time meant to Jeff and his family.
Without me knowing it, “Laureen” reached out to Jeff’s grandson Clint and recorded their side of the story and hearing it for the first time on this podcast reminded me that sometimes the greatest part of hunting has very little to do with the hunt itself.
