🍎 Behind Big Red: Zestar Apple Update 🍎
Just two months ago, on April 14th, our Zestar apple trees were still waking up from their winter rest. (See earlier pics below! 😍) The branches were bare, the buds were tightly closed, and spring was only beginning to make its presence known.
Fast forward to today, and look at the transformation! 🌱🌸
Those tiny buds have expanded into clusters of leaves and beautiful blossoms. During this stage, the trees are putting on one of the most important displays of the growing season. Each blossom has the potential to become an apple, and pollinators like honeybees are hard at work moving pollen from flower to flower to help make that happen.
The pink buds gradually open into delicate white blossoms, filling the orchard with color and signaling the start of fruit development. Once pollination is complete and the petals fall, tiny apples will begin to form where the blossoms once bloomed.
It’s a process that happens every year, but it never gets old watching the orchard come back to life after winter. Zestars are one of the *first* varieties of apples we will have this Fall and we can’t wait for you to try them!
