This Memorial Day weekend, we pause in remembrance and gratitude for the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸

Here at Big Red Orchard & Legacy Bar, we’re deeply thankful for the freedoms we enjoy each day… the freedom to gather with family, share meals with friends, work the Michigan soil we love so much, and build community together right here on this little piece of America. 🇺🇸

As we look out over the orchard and the flags waving in the breeze, we’re reminded that those blessings came at a cost paid by so many who never made it home. Today, we honor and remember them. ❤️

Whether your weekend is filled with family cookouts, quiet reflection, time on the lake, or simply slowing down and appreciating the people around you, we hope it’s meaningful and full of love.

Just a reminder that Legacy Bar will be closed Monday, but we’ll be back open Thursday through Sunday next weekend — just like always — and we can’t wait to welcome you back out to the orchard.

🍎🌱 Behind Big Red: Spring Is Finally Starting to Feel Like Spring & we have an Orchard Update! 🌱🍎

After weeks of watching the weather closely and praying over every bloom and bud, Mother Nature finally seems to be cooperating. The heavy frosts should be behind us, and while we’ll always keep an eye on those chilly Michigan nights, any frost that does come through now is expected to stay low to the ground and move out quickly. ☀️

Our plum trees are slowly coming along, though they remain one of the most delicate crops we grow. Their thin skins make them especially vulnerable to hard rain and hail, so we’ll continue hoping and praying for gentle weather in the weeks ahead. 💜

The apple crop, though? It’s looking beautiful. 🍎 We’re incredibly thankful to see the trees growing strong and healthy, and it’s shaping up to be a bountiful season here at the orchard.

One thing we’re especially proud of is that we’ve officially finished laying fresh mulch under all of the trees across the farm. It’s a huge labor of love, but every bit of it helps keep the orchard healthy and thriving for seasons to come. 🌳

Meanwhile, the asparagus is growing like crazy right before our eyes, and we’re getting ready to plant our market garden in the coming days. There’s something so special about this time of year 🥹 watching the farm wake back up, seeing new growth everywhere, and being reminded how blessed we are to care for this little piece of Michigan. ❤️

Thank you all for following along with us through every season… the stressful nights, the hopeful mornings, the victories, and the uncertainties. Big Red is more than just a farm to us… it’s family, tradition, hard work, faith, and community all wrapped into one. And we’re so grateful you’re part of it. 🫵

After all the ups and downs Mother Nature has thrown our way lately, it feels so good to see the sunshine sticking around a little longer, the orchard coming to life, and patio season officially starting to settle in. ❤️

We’ll be open Memorial Day weekend and can’t wait to spend it with all of you whether you’re stopping by for dinner, drinks, or just a relaxing evening out at the orchard with family & friends.

Behind Big Red: Plum Update!!! 💜🌱

If there’s one thing farming teaches you, it’s hope.

These plum trees have seen a little bit of everything lately… warm sunshine, cold snaps, windy nights, frost advisories that kept us checking the forecast over and over again, and mornings where we held our breath waiting to see how the trees handled it all.

And yet… here they are. Still blooming. Still pushing forward. Still hanging on 🥹

Some blossoms definitely felt the impact of the weather swings… that’s the hard reality of farming in Michigan sometimes. But walking the rows today, seeing fresh green growth and those delicate little blooms still holding on reminded us that nature is incredibly resilient.

There’s still life here. Still potential. Still reason to hope for the season ahead. 🌸

That’s one of the beautiful things about orchards… they teach patience, perseverance, and faith in the process. You can’t control the weather, but you keep showing up for the trees anyway.

For now, the plum rows are still standing strong, soaking up the sunshine, and reminding us that sometimes growth happens quietly… even after the hardest nights. ☀️🌱

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Big Red & Legacy Bar. 🌸💕

We know today can look and feel different for everyone. For some, it’s a day full of celebration, hugs, flowers, and family traditions… and for others, it can carry grief, longing, complicated emotions, or quiet reminders of loved ones deeply missed. Some are celebrating motherhood for the very first time, some are missing their moms, some are longing to become moms, and some are simply doing their best to make it through the day. No matter what today looks like for you, please know the Big Red family is sending you so much love. We hope today brings you moments of peace, comfort, laughter, sunshine, and the reminder that you are deeply valued and cared for. 🫶

Legacy Bar will be closed today in honor of Mother’s Day so our team can spend time with the people they love most. We’re incredibly grateful for this community and for all of the memories we get to make with you season after season.

Fresh-cut Big Red asparagus roasted and wrapped in crispy bacon with parmesan cheese.

🍔 Whiskey Bacon Jam Burger
A premium half-pound burger topped with homemade whiskey bacon jam, sautéed onions, Gouda cheese, lettuce, and tomato on a brioche bun. This one is seriously next-level.

🍗 Chicken Nanban

Behind Big Red: Apple Bloom Update 🌸🍎

There’s something about a Michigan spring… it doesn’t ever come easy, does it?

This year, the frost has tried again and again to take us out. There have been long nights… the kind where sleep doesn’t come easy… just prayer, watching the temperatures, and hoping our trees make it through till morning.

Truthfully? It’s been a tough start to the season.

But here’s the beautiful part…

Our apples are resilient. 🍎🥹

There’s something special about this soil, this land, this place we call home. Even after the cold, even after the worry… those blossoms are still showing up.

Have we been impacted by the weather?Absolutely.

But as farmers, we take the good with the bad, and we keep going…Every single day.

Because we love what we do. And even more than that… we love the community we get to do it with and for. 🫵

This is just the beginning of the season, and we’re believing and having faith in a strong harvest ahead. 🌱 Thank you for being here with us. 🍎
