🎃 Every great pumpkin patch starts somewhere.

Our pumpkins at Ciao Bella Farms are just getting started, but they're putting down roots and getting ready for a summer of growth. In a few months, these little plants will (hopefully!) become the pumpkins that make fall so special.

Follow along as we share the highs, the lows, and everything in between. We can't wait to see how this patch transforms over the coming weeks! 🌱🍂

First “harvest” of the season! Garlic scapes and a little fresh basil for tonight’s dinner.

Garlic scapes are the center stem and flower of hardneck garlic varieties. They are edible and are great made into a pesto, added to stir fry or grilled. When the scapes appear and curl back towards the ground, they should be snapped off so the garlic stops putting energy into growing flowers and puts it into creating bigger garlic cloves. The garlic is ready to be picked typically 3-4 weeks after the scapes are cut (around 4th of July in our growing zone). Softneck varieties don’t grow scapes, so they are ready when the bottom 4 leaves have turned brown and the long stems start to flop over.
