Oh my goodness, they have such personalities right from the start.

How I love those happy turkey sounds, as they hunt for bugs through fresh grass after a rain. We only raise one batch of turkeys each year (organic fed, of course!)

Holiday pre-orders will open soon…email list always gets first dibs!

Adventures in pastures piggery. Never dull! When we came out this morning, the pigs were hanging with the pup. We called Otter (the dog) to breakfast and let the hogs continue their adventure for a while.

During the spring and early summer, the grass grows so fast that we need multiple groups grazing in different areas to keep the pastures eaten. Midsummer, grass growth slows dramatically. It is also generally taller and a little more rank, with less delicious plant species mixed in.

It’s working really well right now to graze the sheep and dairy cows as one group. More bodies in a smaller space means more even manure distribution and more complete grazing and trampling. Fewer groups of animals means we’re able to keep everyone with access to shade shelters and that less of the farm is being grazed on any one day, allowing rest for more pasture as it waits its turn.
