Quick and simple way to feed the bees.

A gallon size pickle jar with wholes in the lid will let the bees take what they want to build out the nest.

This method is much more cost effective then dedicated top feeders, and less hassle then frame feeders.

Beach day for the 🐝 🏖️

These girls are collecting water to help cool the hive on these hot summer days.

Bees also love muddy water for its mineral content.

Wall to wall brood. There is approximately 3,000 usable cells for baby bees on a side.

The queen can fill one side with eggs in a day.

This hive is about to have a population explosion.

Update on the collated swarm from a couple post ago:

Deep down in these cells are eggs, and few larvae. I did not dig through all the bees to find the queen when it was collected.

Therefore, seeing eggs now means the queen is present, and the colony is settling into their new home.

You can identify drones by their big, fuzzy bodies and larger eyes.

This new colony has successfully raised their own queen, and shes been busy laying eggs.

Orientation flights: these bees are making their first venture out of the hive.

By making figure 8 flights around the entrance, they are taking notes about what home looks like.

This is an easy way to know that new bees have emerged and the colony is growing.
