2025 Season Wrap-up.....

Every Saturday/Sunday morning I sit and think about what I'm going to say about the day here at Hunger Mtn. Orchard. This morning is no different, but is really different because we have no apples to be picked. It is a weird feeling to wake up and realize we are done for 2025. Generally we stay open through Columbus day, and maybe into the next week, then it's a wrap.

Well, this year.. this year is totally different. Our crop was much lighter than years past. In fact, I was looking a pictures that have been posted on Google Reviews from last year, and the amount of apples on the ground in one picture is what we generally have, but not this year.

We are sad that we have had to close earlier than we like, but we are forever grateful for all of you who have come, picked apples, visited with us and hugged us and said "see you next year!" You have brought smiles to our faces and memories to cherish.

So moving forward for today, we will begin to pick up the garage, and maybe hit the orchard for a final peek to see what is left on the ground. (I can tell you there are no apples on these trees!).

If you happen to swing by, know that we do not have apples for sale, but we have some of the best syrup ever, made by our friend, Brian Woodard and his family. Local syrup at its best!

And we will put out Bernie's creations.. seasonal table runners, pot holders, bags and pillows.

So, for today.... let's make it a super special day! Enjoy it with friends and family. Create wonderful memories!

Travel safely and may the rest of your year be a special one.. just as each of you are!

We WILL see you next year!! :)

πŸ‘‰ There will be apples available at the garage

πŸ‘‰There is Maple Syrup available

πŸ‘‰We have some cute little pumpkins available

πŸ‘‰ Remember to look at the horses from afar. Please do not feed or pet them.

πŸ‘‰ Thurston Lane is a dead end with a large turn around area. Please do not turn around in our neighbors driveways as we like to respect their privacy and property.

IT'S THE WEEKEND!!!! YAHOOOO!!!

Happy Friday everyone! This is your evening update.

Well Mother Nature, we think she is in control all the time.. well maybe not. We scrambled around here yesterday to pick Northern Spies and Empires and brought in about 15 bushels by night fall for orders that have been placed. We want to thank the Brynga family for coming and helping us pick apples yesterday and trust that Ben's apple slices were really good with Four Sea's Hot fudge sauce!

This morning was a brisk one.. and yes there was frost,,,but not a killer frost!! YAHOO!!!

We have just come in from taking a walk in the orchard, and we pleased to report that any apples that are on the trees are good!!!

We will be open tomorrow starting at 10AM for apple picking. There are Northern Spy, Empire's and Liberty's available. Cortland's are sparse. You might find a Macintosh or two..

Here is our recommendation... if you want apples.. come early because we know it could be potentially busy. There will be apples available at the garage (mostly Empires), as well as maple syrup and hand crafts.

Sunday will be scavenger hunt day, as we expect to not have much left on the trees.

The apple season is winding down here so come early. We look forward to seeing everyone. Have a great evening!

Thursday -October 9,2025 UPDATE....

Today is your lucky day! With the forecast for this evening that calls for a freeze warning...we will open the orchard today from 1 PM- 5 PM.

We will let folks pick Northern spies, Empires, and whatever else you can find in the orchard.

We plan to be open this weekend, but right now we are not sure what apple picking will be like. We plan to pick as much as we can before this evening and will have apples available at the garage as well as syrup and had crafts.

We look forward to seeing you!

A Reminder.....
Just a note to remind folks that we will be closed this weekend. We will reopen on October 11th for final harvest of Northern Spy and Empire's.

Until then, please be sure to visit our fellow apple growers here in VT. We all work together to grow the best apples we can!

Visit https://vermontapples.org/vermont-orchard-listing/

Be sure to check FB pages for these orchards to make sure they are open. The season has been a wonky one with respect to crop size.

We'll see you on the 11th!!

September 28th - Morning Reminder...

Just a reminder that we will be closed until October 11th. Signs have been marked (and more visible ones will be made today so you can see them when traveling route 100 πŸ™‚)

Until then, we ask that you consider getting your apples from our fellow apple growers.

With agriculture, everyone works hard to insure that their crops are good, but we are all at the whim of Mother Nature. She is the one that rules the roost.

We look forward to reopening and seeing everyone for final harvest on October 11th. We will update as we get closer to that date!

Until then.. make the most of each day!

SATURDAY (9/27/25) 4:30 PM, IMPORTANT UPDATE

We will be closing until further notice at 5PM today.
Our crop of Macintosh, Liberty, Macoun, Cortland, Sweet 16 and Pound Sweet have essentially been harvested by a lot of wonderful folks who have come to visit us.

Our Empire and Northern Spy crop is not ready for picking. We expect that they will be ready after colder temperatures.

We will plan to reopen on October 11 at 10 AM.

We apologize for the short notice, but we know that you have gotten some wonderful tasting apples from our orchard. If there are any questions, please PM or give us a call.

Until October 11th, may you have a wonderful rest of your weekend.

September 27, 2025 - 5:30 AM update...

Good morning everyone! The weatherman says it is going to be a glorious weekend for apple picking!

We will be open at 10 AM with Macintosh, Sweet 16, Cortlands and Macouns ready to pick. Expecting that Liberty's will be ready as well, just have to do a taste test this morning.

Because the crop is light this year our supply of utility and cider apples is limited at the garage. There will be folks from CVMC Rehab who will be here helping to pick up drops . This may change what is available as the weekend progresses.

Maple Syrup from Pine Ridge Sugarworks (Duxbury, VT) is still available, as well as quilted creations from Bernie.

Just a few reminders:
⭐️⭐️⭐️🍎- Please pick only from those trees that have streamers on them. There will be sections of the orchard that will be roped off. Those apples in these sections are not ready and have been sold. ⭐️⭐️⭐️🍎

🍎🍎- Please refrain from parking on your neighbors property.

🍎🍎🍎- Turning around to leave Thurston Lane.. you can drive up to the end where this is plenty of room to turn around. We live on a dead end road.

🍎🍎🍎🍎- Please do not feed the horses or our neighbor's dogs.

We are looking forward to a great weekend of apple picking. We will continue to keep you updated as to the status of what is available at the end of the day.

Let's make today and every day the best it can be... with family, friends, co-workers and anyone else that is important to you!

Sunday(9/21/25) Evening update.....

What a great weekend for apple picking!! We had a wonderful two days of meeting lots of new people who came to pick apples.. Florida, Louisiana, Texas and our local community members who are finding our orchard for the first time.

There were a lot of Macintosh heading out of our orchard. While we know that the Macintosh picking was getting slim as today progressed, there will be some still available next week.

Here's the plan for this week (9/22-9/26)... we will be doing some orchard floor clean up and assessing how the crop is looking for the next few weeks. We expect next week that we will be able to have Cortland, Liberty and maybe Macoun ready for next week. Empires and Northern Spy are our last apples we pick so they won't be ready next weekend. We will not be open Monday-Friday this week.

As we settle in for the evening and prep for the week ahead.. we want to thank each and every one of you who came here to enjoy our orchard and to spend time with your friends and family. You may have learned a bit of history about our orchard, and I know we did give a quick pruning demo to a family. We strive very hard to make sure that you have the best time ever, and we appreciate you!

May your week ahead be the best it can be.. and may it include an Macintosh or two!!

Sunday, September 21st AM update...

Did you know that today is the last day of summer? It sure didn't feel like that about an hour ago when I went to feed the horses their breakfast. 🌬

Thank goodness Mother Nature was kind to us last night because the Macintosh I ate, and the Sweet 16 I shared with the horses was phenomenal!

We will be open at 10 AM with lots of apples still to pick. These last two nights of cold weather may have helped some of our later varieties like Liberty and Cortland to start to be ready. We need to taste test those is AM, and will let you know if they are ready when you come.

We are looking for another spectacular day ahead of us. I always say that we are given a blank canvas to draw an exceptional picture of our day.. so let's do that ... together!

See you soon.. dress warmly!
