We’re delighted to welcome our friends Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen to Land Beer Fest! We think highly of 3F in many ways, with their Cereals Collective right up at the top of the list. They’re working with local farmers to grow local grain for their beer. It’s easy to understand why we appreciate them so much! You can hear more about it starting at 11:00am Saturday during our Storytelling Session.

To celebrate on Saturday, 3 Fonteinen are sharing very special bottles with all of us. Three new blends will make their U.S. debut at Land Beer Fest:

Cuvée Armand & Gaston - Blend 93 of Season 20|21
This is an Oude Geuze — what 3F was built on. This blend reflects the origins of the Cereals Collective with about 33% locally-sourced grain. It was a pretty good rate for 3F back when this was bottled in 2021 (meaning base lambics brewed 2-4 years prior). Only 340 bottles of this blend exist, none of which have yet been released in the U.S.

Schaarbeekse Kriek - Blend 78 of Season 22|23
A classic. Blend of 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-year lambics with a 12-month maceration on hand-picked, local cherries. About 50% of the blend uses grain from the 3F Cereals Collective. This beer tells a story of the disappearance of Schaarbeek cherries and the community-based efforts 3F led to bring them back. This beer has not been released in the U.S. prior to Land Beer Fest.

Zenne y Frontera - Blend 70 of Season 22|23
3F has been working with traditional bodegas in Jerez to source extremely fresh sherry barrels for about 10 years now. This is the latest release. 60% Cereals Collective lambic matured in Oloroso barrels from a Josefa Perez, a tiny producer. Fewer than 300 magnums exist and Saturday at Land Beer Fest marks its first U.S. release.

What’s more, we’re thrilled to also have available to Land Beer Fest guests:

Wilde Terf
A collaboration between 3F and De la Senne to highlight the Cereals Collective. De la Senne brewed a wheat beer based on historic recipes. Cereals were sourced 100% from the collective, with a focus on some types of wheat that had more-or-less disappeared. A portion of this was bottled and sold as a clean beer. The remainder was but into barrels for three years and later blended about 50/50 with 3F lambic before bottling and refermentation.

Wijnbergperzik - Blend 24 of Season 22|23
Every year the 3F team goes down to Moselle for the harvest to source grapes for Druif lambics. These all come from low-intervention, biodynamic wineries. One of those vineyards has a few peach trees that 3F harvests for this blend.

Please note, these bottles are in very limited supply and are only available the day of Land Beer Fest on a first come, first served basis. We’ll see you Saturday!

Estate Piedmont Ale, 7.4%
100% Estate grain mashed with water from our natural source and fermented with wild yeast native to our fields.

𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱.
In 2018, we began planting grain to make beer. We’d not done this before and there wasn’t a playbook to follow that we could find. We did it anyway because we believed it was possible to grow community around a shared sense of place. Fast forward 7 years and, together, we’ve all created an incredible community through truly local food and beverage.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿.
Tabula Rasa is made entirely from barley and wheat we regeneratively grow on our farm next to the brewhouse. Like all of our beers, the water is drawn from a natural source deep below these grain fields and it’s brewed with renewable energy. Fermented with yeast we captured a stone’s throw from the kettle. Bottle conditioned and cold stored for months.

𝗧𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲.
Small batch, custom malts set the stage in Tabula Rasa for the wild yeast aromatics to sing. The dance of layered malts and yeast esters tiptoe between delicate biscuit with spice cake and meadow flowers with cracked white pepper. Broad shoulders and fulsome flavor mid-palate momentarily disguise its tight, bone dry finish. For all of our intention with ingredients and methods, Tabula Rasa came to life on its own. We offered a blank slate. Tabula Rasa led us to its destination.

We’ll see you on the farm this Saturday, friends.

VALES
Pilsner Houblonnée, 5%

Vales is a bright, hoppy Pilsner. Tantalizing zippy citrus and herbal meadow flower aromas leap from the glass. Its refined malty body creates a platform for the French hops to shine.

Inspiration for this lager comes from two farming regions we hold dear. Both bordered by mountains to the west and rivers to the east. Separated by distance, the Virginian and Alsatian Vales remain connected through people approaching place with purpose.

This lager pays homage to these Vales, or valleys, with grain from fellow small farms in the Virginia Piedmont and hops grown by farmers we know from the Alsace region in France. The Alsatian agricultural area between the Vosges Mountains and Rhine River is a special one. Farmers there have been growing outstanding hops for centuries. Many farmers in our Piedmont region of Virginia, between the Appalachian Mountains and Potomac River, share this passion for produce from their place.

Despite differences in language and traditions, there’s a shared understanding of the land. It’s anchored by a common view of the vital role that small farms play in a region’s identity — especially in our modern world.

Beyond the produce itself, the relationship between people and place gives us context and meaning and purpose. Nearby farms buoy regional culture through truly local food and drink. It’s a beautiful thing that we love to celebrate.

Want to hear more about people offering produce from a place? Join us at Land Beer Fest on June 7th, starting with a storytelling session at 11:00am. Grounds open at 10:30.

Wheatland Spring Farm + Brewery (with on-farm B&B)

Established circa 1832, the historic Wheatland Spring property is nestled among gently rolling hills in the heart of rural Western Loudoun County. Wheatland Spring Farm + Brewery offers guests hand made beers in historic buildings that use ingredients from our farm, neighboring farms, and regional, small scale producers as much as possible.

Wheatland Spring is just an hour outside of Washington, DC, but a visit will return guests to the pace of life from decades ago. Named for the natural spring on the property, Wheatland Spring is situated on 30 acres of bucolic Virginia farmland with a number of outbuildings, including a cottage house, spring house, bank barn, and corn crib.
