Bee update:
It’s every beekeepers dream to crack the top of the hive and see white wax and tons of bees working the honey supers. That’s an immediate sign that you are in a nectar flow and you’ll probably find frames full of honey underneath.
That wasn’t the case on Sunday when I checked supers.. I mean, there is honey, but in years past- I’ve needed to extract already at this time of the year. I wasn’t able to manage them as tightly for honey production as I have before, and I think it’s showing.. But, there is still lots of time left in the season, and all of the bees are looking good so I’m still hopeful for a nice harvest this year..I have 14 colonies in this yard, and 13 of them have two honey supers on them… each super yields around 25ish lbs of honey.
We haven’t lived at home since August of last year, and I think the cat was excited to see me… he followed me to the apiary for some rubs. I tried and tried to shoo him away, but he wouldn’t leave until he got stung.
For comparison… Auggie is holding a frame full of honey from May 4, 2024… I remember extracting around 100lbs of black locust honey that week.
I do have honey for sale, but I won’t be at the market until I recheck supers and know I have a larger harvest! Please reach out if you need honey!
